Notes on the Flora of Taiwan (35) — Scutellaria taipeiensis T. C. Huang, A. Hsiao et M. J. Wu sp. nov. (Lamiaceae)
A comparative study of corolla types, pollen features, nutlet coat ornamentation and
chromosome numbers of Scutellaria (Lamiaceae) species in Taiwan has been conducted. The result
reveals that we have a new species so that Scutellaria taipeiensis T. C. Huang, A. Hsiao et M. J. Wu
sp. nov. is here proposed. A key to the species, species description and illustrations, and other relevant
information are provided
Perspectives on Identity, Migration, and Displacement
Perspectives on Identity, Migration, and Displacement -- edited by Steven Tötösy de Zepetnek, I-Chun Wang, and Hsiao-Yu Sun (Kaohsiung: National Sun Yat-sen University Press, 2010. ISBN 9789860235418 209 pages, bibliography, index) is a collection of articles about sociological and literary aspects of identity formation as a consequence of (im)migration. (Im)migration results in the problematics of assimilation and hybridity and in postcolonial scholarship, in particular, attention is paid to the concept of migration termed Creolization on the ground that cultural contact, cultural transmission, and cultural transformation result in the creation of new cultures. Tenthecoris colombiensis Hsiao & Sailer 1947
Tenthecoris colombiensis Hsiao & Sailer, 1947 (Fig. 41) Tenthecoris colombiensis Hsiao & Sailer 1947: 69. (original description). Material examined. Type material. Paratypes: COLOMBIA. 1 ♀ 1?, “Orquídeas” (Hsiao & Sailer, #58159), U.S. N.M., D.C. Insp. H. (MNRJ). Diagnosis. Body orange and black. Head, pronotum and embolium orange. Antennal segments I (except base) and II black. Scutellum and clavus black with metallic blue sheen (except base). Corium orange with circular brown spot next to cuneus. Antennal segment II longer than each antennal segment I and vertex width. Labium length exceeding hind coxae. Fore femur orange, middle femur orange except at base, hind femur white proximally and orange distally. Body length 4.50–4.52 mm (Hsiao & Sailer 1947). Right and left parameres as in Hsiao & Sailer (1947, Fig. 17). Associated plants. Cattleya sp. (Orchidaceae) (Hsiao & Sailer 1947 ). Distribution. Colombia (without details) (Hsiao & Sailer 1947). Comments. The length of T. colombiensis given in the original description was 4.52 mm long (Hsiao & Sailer 1947). Specimens in the present work are 4.50 mm; hence, length ranges are 4.50–4.52 mm.Published as part of Alvarez-Zapata, Alejandra, Ferreira, Paulo S. Jetting, In-Nozzle Meniscus Motion and Nozzle-Plate Flooding in An Industrial Drop-on-Demand Print Head
The state of the ink film at and near the nozzles of a drop-ondemand(DoD) print head during jetting has a direct impact on
printing performance and reliability. We have developed highspeed imaging apparatus and analytical techniques to investigate
the ink film dynamics on an industrial print head nozzle-plate in real-time. In addition to a direct correlation between the jet
emergence velocity and drive voltage, drive-dependent variations in the oscillation of the ink meniscus in adjacent nozzles were also observed. Using a ray-tracing model to analyze the meniscus shape, the meniscus oscillations for both printing and nonprinting nozzles were found to be complex and involve elements such as pre-oscillation and high-order surface waves. The flooding of non-firing nozzles, deliberately caused by the application of maximum drive voltage to a neighboring nozzle, has been recorded and analyzed dynamically. The build-up of fluid in an annulus around the nozzle (flooding rate) has been characterized and compared with models for the net ink flow
through the nozzle

Adaptive fixed rank kriging based thermographic data processing for material defect detection
Data collected in active infrared thermography (AIRT) experiments for non-destructive defect detection in materials are often contaminated by undesired noise and backgrounds. In this study, an AIRT data processing method, which adopts adaptive fixed-rank kriging, is proposed. This approach computes a set of ordered functions that represent data features at the different resolution levels, called multi-resolution spline basis functions. Multiresolution spline functions were extracted from the thin-plate splines and ordered by the degree of smoothness. The only tuning parameter for this method is the resolution level, making this approach extensively applicable. The performance of the proposed method was evaluated by conducting a mosaic sample defect detection. The results showed that the proposed AIRT data processing method is not only efficient but also effective. © 2023 SPIE. All rights reserved
