Ageing and Hardcore-Punk Identity: Analysis of the Fanzine Hluboká Orba and the Changing Themes of Its Author Filip Fuchs
Tento rámec je postaven na práci Stephena Duncomba (2008) a publikaci Punk, Ageing and Time (Way & Grimes, 2024). Výsledky práce ukazují, že stárnutí v punku nepředstavuje konec...This thesis focuses on analyzing the transformation of Filip Fuchs's punk identity in relation to ageing, life changes, and broader social and subcultural contexts, as expressed in his texts published in the Czech punk fanzine Hluboká Orba (1993-2014). The main theoretical framework is the concept of "ageing punk," which combines two key dimensions: the temporal evolution of punk identity and the structural conflict between subcultural values and the norms of mainstream society. This framework draws primarily on the work of Stephen Duncombe (2008) and the edited volume Punk, Ageing and Time (Way & Grimes, 2024). The thesis shows that despite the changes brought by ageing-such as work obligations, parenthood, or health- related issues, Fuchs's punk identity remains authentic and consistent, grounded in values such as DIY ethics, collectivism, and resistance to authority and commercialization. The analysis of Fuchs's writing reveals a persistent tension between the ideals of alternative culture and the realities of adult life. This tension is not framed as a failure, but rather as a space for critical reflection and reinterpretation of punk identity. At the same time, the ageing process is presented as ongoing and dynamic, during which Fuchs redefines punk in middle age without abandoning its core...Department of Media StudiesKatedra mediálních studiíFaculty of Social SciencesFakulta sociálních vě

Popularity decline of the Clubhouse application in the Czech Republic and its reasons
This thesis examines the reasons for the rapid decline in popularity of the Clubhouse platform and the needs of emerging social networks to be competitive in the long term. The aim of the thesis is to use qualitative research to find out what reasons and circumstances led former users of the Clubhouse platform to use it and then abandon it, whether and under what conditions a renewal of its popularity is possible, and what respondents believe an emerging platform needs to fulfill in order to retain user attention. The theoretical part is devoted to the introduction of the Clubhouse platform, analysis of the most currently used social platforms, historical development of social networks and their influence on society. Data collection was conducted by the author through in-depth interviews with former users of the Clubhouse platform who had been actively using it for at least two months. The data collected was analysed using thematic analysis. The research results show that the rise of the Clubhouse platform was closely linked to the circumstances of the Covid-19 pandemic and the artificially created FOMO. The abandonment of the platform by users was mainly due to the departure of inspirational speakers and its lack of attractiveness in the long run. The research revealed, among other things, that...Diplomová práce se zabývá důvody rapidního poklesu popularity platformy Clubhouse a potřebami nově vznikajících sociálních sítí k jejich dlouhodobé konkurenceschopnosti.

Printed DIY media in information age: how Web 2.0 influenced culture of fanzines
The thesis aims to explore changes in the production of music fanzines brought about by the advent of new media. Fanzines are defined as nonofficial magazines published independently in compliance with the code of DIY ethics. The theoretical part of this work focuses on the history of fanzine production as well as on concepts of alternative media, which is necessary in order to examine the current state of the aforementioned alternative media sphere. Furthermore, the theoretical part describes fans' behaviour, as they are the most prominent representatives of active audiences. This behaviour is a key to understanding the motivation behind fanzine production as well as the nature of media communication in the cyberspace, where boundaries between producers and consumers of media messages disappear. The main part of this work analyses interviews with ten figures from the Czech community of both pre-internet authors and those of post-internet era, the latter being used to internet communication. Described discursive patterns reveal the existence of two separate worlds: traditional fanzine community and online environment, coexisting in mutual awareness. Yet the former strives to guard its boundaries, protecting its products from the internet, albeit oftentimes entering the virtual space in search for..

Výsledné zistenia sú následne zhodnotené, a ich charakter skontrolovaný v súvislosti s dvoma výskumnými otázkami, ktoré znejú: "Ako je autormi hudobných albumov a mediálnych textov o týchto albumoch prezentovaná vražda novinára a spoločenská situácia po nej v textoch piesní, rozhovoroch, článkoch a recenziách?", a "Ako je autormi hudobných albumov a mediálnych textov o týchto albumoch prezentované...Katedra mediálních studiíDepartment of Media StudiesFaculty of Social SciencesFakulta sociálních vě
Critical Media in Post-Socialist Space of Central Europe
The thesis focuses on the nature, practices and position of critical media in Central Europe, specifically on the periodicals Deník Alarm, Kapitál, Krytyka Polityczna and Mérce. These media, as defined by Christian Fuchs, produce critical content pointing out the flaws and problems of the current social and media systems, thus strengthening their democratic condition. The aim of this paper is to provide insight into the editorial offices of critical media through qualitative research. I am using the methods of ethnographic observation and in-depth semi-structured interviews to learn about and then also describe the functioning, positions and identities of critical media outlets, as well as how the editors feel within the journalistic communities of the countries in question. The hypothesis of this thesis is that the critical media of the Visegrad Four may have a unique character due to their geographical position and the socialist past of this area. I will try to capture the similarities or, conversely, the differences of the media, while taking into account what their social function is and whether they fit the theory of critical media at all. The thesis fills a gap in research on alternative media of the post-socialist bloc and brings the concept of critical media to the Central European region,..
Crisis Communication of a Music Festival
The thesis "Crisis Communication of a Music Festival" addresses the crisis communication of the Pohoda music festival organisers during the arrival of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, in relation to the postponing of the originally planned live format of the event to the following year and the organization of the online festival Pohoda in the Air as an alternative. The primary aim of the research is to evaluate the efficiency and success of the Pohoda festival organisers' crisis communication, to examine its weaknesses and strengths, and to compare it with a model of ideal crisis communication that emerges from existing theoretical frameworks. The ambition of the thesis is to also offer practical recommendations for crisis communication of the festival based on research. The theoretical part of the thesis first looks at the conceptualisation of crisis and crisis communication and the theoretical grounding of the field, drawing primarily on structured models and practical application theories. It then introduces the field of music festivals and live culture. The thesis includes a concise history outline of Slovak music festivals in general and a brief history of the Pohoda festival, followed by a contextualization of the case. Based on the theoretical frameworks explored, a model of ideal crisis..
