    No full text
This paper presents and reproduces an unpublished oral history interview given by Jacob Viner in 1953. The interview released by Viner for the Columbia Oral History Project gives us a valuable opportunity to throw light on his advisory activity during the New Deal Era. In our introduction we attempt to make a critical appraisal of Viner's reminiscences and to state the contribution they can provide to our general knowledge of the period. In addition, we also attempt to find out some biographical and interpretative elements useful to understand Viner’s own vision and his contribution to important economic policy processes during the New Deal.

W Polsce pozostaje autorem niszowym i nierozpoznawalnym. Artykuł stanowi wprowadzenie do biografii i twórczości Jacoba Taubesa, przedstawia jego życiorys i dorobek naukowy, a także określa charakterystyczne cechy twórczości tego tajemniczego żydowskiego filozofa.Jacob Taubes (1923–1987) was a Jewish philosopher, historian of ideas, talented writer and long-time lecturer at universities in New York, Harvard, and Princeton. His interests were focused on eschatology, interpreted in the key of political theology. He was fascinated by the figure of Saint Paul, whom he regarded more as a Jew than a Christian. He never specified his religious affiliation, but he professed a belief in transcendence, the purposefulness of the world, and eternal life. Privately, he was a figure who evoked extreme emotions; he was enigmatic, full of contradictions and even controversial. Despite his brilliant career and philosophical genius, Taubes did not leave behind many works. In Poland, he remains a niche and unrecognized author. This article serves as an introduction to the biography and work of Jacob Taubes, presenting his life story and scholarly achievements, as well as identifying the distinctive characteristics of this mysterious Jewish philosopher’s work

Jacob Breyne, who lived in Gdańsk in the 17th century, was one of the most important botanists in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. He was fascinated with the exotic flora and was also interested in the flora at home. Like many other botanists in Gdańsk in the 17th century, he planned to publish the work devoted to autochthonous plants of Royal Prussia and Kashubia, but his plans were interrupted by his death. In the collection of Naturalis Biodiversity Centre in Leiden there are preserved two of his horti sicci prepared correspondingly in 1659 and 1673, where specimens of indigenous plants from Gdańsk Pomerania were included. They are the oldest sources of this kind to be found in the territories of early modern Poland. The author of the article presents the botanic interests of Jacob Breyne in the Pomeranian local flora. The edition of the texts from the Leiden herbaria was enclosed
