The front view of the Howard J. Chidley Residence Hall. The Howard J. Chidley Residence Hall was named in honor of Dr. Howard J. Chidley, a minister at First Congregational Church in Winchester, member of the Board of Trustees from 1916 to 1921 and financial contributor and supporter of the National Religious Training School. Howard J. Chidley Residence Hall is the only building on campus named in honor of a non-resident of North Carolina. Howard J. Chidley Residence Hall was constructed in 1951, renovated in 1965, and closed in May 2006
