    Howard Cooper fire engine, 1923

    No full text
In 1950, three men in Maple Valley signed a $1000 note to purchase the Howard Cooper, the first fire engine in the valley. The first day on the job, the engine and crew responded to two calls: at the Finnish bathhouse in Hobart and to a housefire. After the Maple Valley Volunteer Fire Department became part of King County, the Howard Cooper was sold in 1955. Eventually it was abandoned in the woods and most of its brass stolen. In 1969, it was purchased by the volunteer firefighters who spent 3144 hours to restore the engine
