Representations of unit-distance graphs
Sedmo poglavje povzema rezultate objavljene v članku [B. Horvat, T. Pisanski, A. Žitnik: The dilation coefficient of a complete graph, Croat. Chem. Acta, (sprejeto), 2009].The doctoral thesis describes problems concerning graphs that can be represented in the Euclidean plane (or ▫▫-space) in such a way, that vertices are represented as points in the plane (▫▫-space) and edges as line segments of unit lengths. Problems are observed from a computational and a mathematical point of view. In the first part of the thesis the (already known, mainly mathematical) theory of unit-distance graph representations is presentedat the same time the terminology of the results is unified and several propositions are proved. First computer aided attempts to generate small graphs with a unit-distance representation are discussed. In the following chapter the well-known graph products of ▫▫-dimensional unit-distance graphs are studied. The third chapter disproves the wrong assumption that Heawood graph is not a unit-distance graph, by providing the unit-distance coordinatization of it. In the fourth chapter all degenerate unit-distance representations of the Petersen graph in the Euclidean plane are presented and some relationships among them are observed. In the following chapter generalized Petersen graphs and ▫▫-graphs are observed. Necessary and sufficient conditions for two ▫▫-graphs to be isomorphic are given. As a corollary it is shown that a large subclass of ▫▫-graphs can be drawn with unit-distances in the Euclidean plane by using the representation with a rotational symmetry. Conjectures concerning unit-distance coordinatizations and highly-degenerate unit-distance representations of ▫▫-graphs are stated and verified for all ▫▫-graphs up to 2000 vertices. In the sixth chapter the decision problems that ask about the existence of a degenerate ▫▫-dimensional unit-distance representation or coordinatization of a given graph are shown to be NP-complete. In the last chapter of the thesis a heuristics that draws a given graph in the Euclidean plane by minimizing the quotient of the longest and the shortest edge length is presentedsee SPE algorithm in [D.Agrafiotis. Stochastic proximity embedding. J. Comput. Chem., 24 (2003) 1215-122]. The dilation coefficient of a graph is introduced and theoretically obtained bounds for the dilation coefficient of a complete graph are given. The calculated upper bounds for the dilation coefficients of complete graphs are compared to the values obtained by three graph-drawing algorithms, see [B. Horvat, T. Pisanski, A. Žitnik: The dilation coefficient of a complete graph, Croat. Chem. Acta, (accepted), 2009]
Religious Diversity in Byzantine Galilee: The Evidence from Horvat Kur
Five (5) seasons of archaeological work at Horvat Kur in the Lower Eastern Galilee have exposed the remains of a "broad-house" synagogue from the Byzantine period. Excavations in both the synagogue area and the nearby domestic quarter locate the main occupation phases at Horvat Kur from the late fourth to the seventh century CE. The Horvat Kur synagogue thus provides additional archaeological evidence for religious diversity in Byzantine Galilee, complementing evidence from other synagogues and challenging the view that, after Constantine, Judaism in the region was in decline and turning inward. On the contrary, it increasingly appears that local rural Jewish communities continued to flourish, despite imperial edicts from the early fifth century onwards that tried to restrict or prohibit the construction of new synagogues. In addition, the Horvat Kur synagogue is located in close proximity to the important Christian pilgrimage sites of Tabgha, where a church was built in the fifth century, and Capernaum, where a church and synagogue are located almost adjacent to each other. The locations of these structures and villages make it likely that daily contacts between Jewish and Christian communities must have taken place. In this paper, we evaluate whether and how the material evidence for the coexistence of small Galilean communities could supplement (and correct) ancient literary sources which have, in the past, been regarded as evidence for mutual antagonism and alienation. Perhaps the literary sources were advocating for a distance between the communities which did not exist in social and material contexts
Letter of concern from Boris Drasin, President of the Jersey Homesteads Industrial Cooperative Association
Jersey Homesteads (later renamed the Borough of Roosevelt) was established in the 1930s as an agro-industrial cooperative community. It was established specifically for urban Jewish garment workers, many of whome had emigrated from Europe. In this letter, Boris Drasin, a community leader who was the President of the Jersey Homesteads Industrial Cooperative Association, expresses his concerns to their management corporation (Consumers Wholesale Clothiers, Inc.) about how financial losses will impact the lives of Roosevelt's residents, three-fourths of whom depended on the garment factory for their livelihoods. He makes suggestions as to how the situation might be improved

Report on 2010-2013 Excavations at Horvat Kur, Galilee
Four seasons of excavations at Horvat Kur in the Galilee (250570/754485) have exposed the remains of a broadhouse synagogue from the Byzantine period.
The building was entered through a portico on the west or a doorway on the south. The fill beneath the portico included the discarded remains of a once colored mosaic as well as more than 1000 coins. A low bench of basalt stones (some of which were plastered) runs along the interior walls, interrupted only by a stone bemah in the center of the southern wall. The synagogue is thus oriented toward Jerusalem. Near the bemah, an ornamented limestone seat was found in situ atop the bench. The building underwent several changes and repairs in the course of its lifespan.
On either side of the bemah, north-south rows of columns rested on stylobate. A basalt stone table was found in re-use in the eastern stylobate. Nicknamed “the Horvat Kur stone,” this monolith features geometric figures on three sides and figurative representations on one side. Its original function is as yet subject of research.
A narrow test-trench into the sediment of a cistern located outside the northern wall of the synagogue has produced nearly thirty intact vessels of the early Byzantine period, mostly cooking pots and water jars. In addition a dense sequence of pollen samples has been taken.
Preliminary interpretation of these finds indicates that the Horvat Kur synagogue illustrates Byzantine synagogue construction, decoration, and use in the setting of a Galilean village of modest economic circumstances

CONSOLIDATION OF PUBLIC FINANCES DURING GLOBAL RECESSION
Države spretno kljubujejo pastem gospodarske in finančne krize. Nekaterim bo uspelo prej, drugim kasneje. A posledice se bodo čutile še vrsto let.Public finance consolidation is currently the most pressing issue when dealing with the 2008 crisis. Results from instruments aimed at saving the economy are already visible and now, a year after the crisis, the main focus is on regulating public finance. Public finance consolidation involves implementing measures to improve the financial condition of the state. Authorities responsible for solving the crisis carefully analyse the situation and choose the best instruments for reducing the allowed public deficit to at least 3% of GDP , and at the same time minimising debt accumulation. Each country takes measures according to its own circumstances and capacities. Of course, global institutions assist these countries with expert recommendations and advice. Some of these recommendations are binding and non-compliance is sanctioned, whereas others are merely guidelines from experts. Countries are successfully avoiding the traps of the economic and financial crisis – the damage is significant, but can be gradually improved with appropriate measures. Some countries will succeed sooner than others. The consequences, however, will be visible for many years
