Facilitating Document Reading by Linking Text and Tables
Document authors commonly use tables to support arguments presented in the text. But, because tables are usually separate from the main body text, readers must split their attention between different parts of the document. We present an interactive document reader that automatically links document text with corresponding table cells. Readers can select a sentence (or tables cells) and our reader highlights the relevant table cells (or sentences). We provide an automatic pipeline for extracting such references between sentence text and table cells for existing PDF documents that combines structural analysis of tables with natural language processing and rule-based matching. On a test corpus of 330 (sentence, table) pairs, our pipeline correctly extracts 48.8% of the references. An additional 30.5% contain only false negative (FN) errors - the reference is missing table cells. The remaining 20.7% contain false positive (FP) errors - the reference includes extraneous table cells and could therefore mislead readers. A user study finds that despite such errors, our interactive document reader helps readers match sentences with corresponding table cells more accurately and quickly than a baseline document reader
Regeneration efficiency and genotypic effect of some indica type Bangaldeshi rice (Oryza sativa L.) landraces
Genotypic effect was observed for embryogenic callus induction and subsequent plant regeneration in 15 indica type Bangladeshi rice (Oryza sativa L.) landraces. Different growth regulators were found to influence callus induction ability and green plant regeneration. The highest frequency (55.6%) of shoot regeneration was observed in Hashikalmi with the supplementary hormone concentrations and combination of 2 mg/l BA, 1 mg/l NAA and 1.5 mg/l Kn in MS. The embryogenic calli derived from mature seeds successfully produced shoots, and rooted well on MS basal salt with IAA. Five landraces which could be utilized in further manipulation, such as transformation and in vitro hybridization, were found to have higher regeneration ability (± 50%). In vitro regenerated plants were successfully established in soil and produced fertile seeds

Manufacturing of coir fibre-reinforced polymer composites by hot compression technique
This present chapter describes the manufacturing technique and properties of coir fibre-reinforced polypropylene composites manufactured using a hot press machine. The effects of basic chromium sulphate and sodium bicarbonate treatment on the physical and mechanical properties were also evaluated. Chemical treatment and fibre loading generally improved the mechanical properties. Five-hour basic chromium sulphate and sodium bicarbonate-treated coir-polypropylene had the best set of properties among all manufactured composites. Chemical treatment also improved water absorption characteristics. This proves that chemical treatment reduced the hydrophilicity of the coir fibre. Overall the hot compression technique was proved to be successful in manufacturing good quality coir reinforced polypropylene composites
The mutual effects of residential energy demand and climate change in the United States: A wavelet analysis
This study examines the complex and time-varying relationship between residential energy demand (including electricity, geothermal, and solar energy) and climate change using wavelet analyses with monthly USA data from January 1990 to March 2023. The results show that residential energy demand and climate change indicators exhibit a time-varying interrelationship with cyclical and lag effects. Specifically, before 2021, a positive correlation between residential electricity demand and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in short-term frequencies was found, but the relationship reversed thereafter, with an increase in CO2 levels influencing and decreasing residential electricity demand. In the long run frequencies, the link between residential power consumption and CO2 emissions shifted over time, exhibiting inconsistent co-movement. The co-movements between residential geothermal and CO2 show predominantly positive correlations, with CO2 leading the relationship in the short run, while geothermal leads the co-movements in the long run. In both short and long-term frequencies, the dependency and co-movement between residential solar and CO2 are mixed, with residential solar leading to positive correlations and CO2 leading to negative correlations. Therefore, improved insulation, energy-efficient windows, and high-efficiency heating systems can all assist in reducing heat loss and the total energy demand for domestic heating and subsequently low CO2 emissions
