The main goal is to underline the importance of Universal Design and therefore many activities are organised in Flanders. In Hasselt we curated a whole UD week with a symposium, lectures, exhibition and UD filmfestival

No full textIn de gemeente Gistel kunnen vrijwilligers, stadsmedewerkers en sociaal
assistenten een basiscursus Arabisch volgen. Een persoon van Syrische
afkomst wou met dat initiatief een tegenprestatie leveren voor haar
integratie in de maatschappij. De cursus wordt georganiseerd door het
ocmw van Gistel en kadert binnen de doelstelling van het ocmw om volop
te kunnen inzetten op de integratie van nieuwkomers. De taalcursus heeft
als doelstelling om basisbegrippen Arabisch bij te brengen die kunnen
helpen om nieuwkomers goed te ontvangen en meteen het ijs te breken.
De gedachte is dat door nieuwkomers in hun eigen taal te begroeten, ze
makkelijker Nederlandse woorden en begrippen aanleren. De plaatselijke
N-VA afdeling, nochtans in de meerderheid, vindt dat de omgekeerde
wereld. Ook bevoegd minister voor Binnenlands Bestuur, Liesbeth Homans,
was die mening toegedaan. Daan Bijnens en Stef Keunen (Universiteit
Hasselt) onderzoeken de vraag waar de juridische grens ligt voor een
bestuur om nieuwkomers in onze samenleving in hun eigen taal aan te
spreken
