The effect of a single HOM-damper cell within a channel of undamped cells
The effect of a single HOM-damper cell within a channel of undamped cells is described theoretically using an equivalent circuit model. From this a simple equation can be derived which relates the Q-value of the single damping-cell, the bandwidth of the passband under consideration, and the additional phase shift which is introduced by the damper cell to provide energy flow into the damper cell. This equation immediately shows the limitations of such single cell damping systems. Comparisons with experimental results are shown

The design of the HOM-damping cells for the S-band linear collider
Damping cells for the higher order modes are necessary for the S-band linear collider to minimize BBU (Beam-Break-Up). The construction of the damper cells has to take into account the different field geometries of the higher order modes. So two different types of dampers have been designed: a wall slotted an an iris slotted cell. In order to optimize the two types of damping cells with respect to damping strength, impedance matching between coupling system and waveguide dampers and between damping cell and undamped cells and the tuning system, damping cells of both types have been built and examinated
Graphs maximal with respect to hom-properties
For a simple graph H, →H denotes the class of all graphs that admit homomorphisms to H (such classes of graphs are called hom-properties). We investigate hom-properties from the point of view of the lattice of hereditary properties. In particular, we are interested in characterization of maximal graphs belonging to →H. We also provide a description of graphs maximal with respect to reducible hom-properties and determine the maximum number of edges of graphs belonging to →H
Quality factor measurements in cavities with mode overlap
A new method of measuring quality factors in cavities is presented. This method is well suited to measure quality factors in undamped cavities as well as in heavily damped cavities, and in addition this method provides a possibility of separating modes and measuring quality factors especially in cases of overlapping modes. Measurements have been carried out on HOM-damped cavities for the DESY/THD linear collider project. Results are presented

The article reflects dramatic work of Peter Karvaš in the context of existentialist philosophy. It points to the connection between the social situation and the author´s topic choice, emotional engagement and approach to characters. In the article the author defines the basic features of existentialist philosophy in the work of Peter Karvaš providing analysis of selected extracts. In particular the article deals with the issue of how male characters react to the same situation and their motives behind the reaction. The article also reveals subjective view of Karvaš on social events and their impact on people and Karvaš himself

<p>The intracortical connections are illustrated as densely connected fibers in the upper sheet and define the homogeneous connectivity <i>W<sub>hom</sub></i>. A single fiber connects the two distant regimes (A) and (B) and contributes to the heterogeneous connectivity, <i>W<sub>het</sub></i>, whereas regime (C) has only homogeneous connections.</p

The article contains two parts. In the first, the Author describes the theoretical background for analysing the photographs by an American controversial artist – Joel-Peter Witkin; the analysis is carried out in the second part of the paper. The realistic, authenticity-oriented visions of W. Benjamin, R. Barthes or S. Sontag are confronted with Witkin’s creativeness spirit – clearly manipulating in matters of the order of reality (and its rules of appearance) and photographical stuff. This attitude is supported by François Soulages’ views on aesthetics

Included are Brannon's incoming and outgoing correspondence; family documents; legal and financial documents; two diaries; manuscripts on a variety of subjects, including banking in Alabama, the spelling of "Tuscaloosa", the history of pharmacy, and "John Bascom," a racehorse from Alabama; a typed manuscript of an untitled novel; a handwritten journal documenting his archeological collections and expeditions between 1905 and 1907; a handwritten list of selected ordinances from Lowndesboro, Alabama in 1866; correspondence between Alabama archivist Peter Brannon and researchers J. After 1910, he began a career at the Alabama Department of Archives and History, working as a curator, archivist, and finally serving as the third director of the institution from 1955-1967.
