Dromedaricoccus Hodgson & Miller, 2011 Dromedaricoccus Hodgson & Miller in Hodgson et al. 2011, 66. Type species: Dromedaricoccus hansoni Hodgson & Miller by original designation. Introduction. This monotypic genus from Costa Rica induces bulbous swellings on the young stems, petioles and undersides of the mid-veins of leaflets of Astronium graveolens (Anacardiaceae). The adult male (Fig. 32) and female of D. hansoni were described by Hodgson et al. (2011). Unlike the adult males of many gall-inducing species, the male of D. hansoni does not have an elongate abdomen or a long penial sheath. Instead, it is the adult female which has an attenuated abdomen, which is presumably extended to the gall opening for copulation. Generic diagnosis based on adult male morphology (Fig. 32). Body not attenuated and abdomen more or less parallel sided with a short penial sheath; body setae fairly short, with hs and fs almost indistinguishable. Head: quite setose; simple pores absent; ocular sclerite without striations or reticulations; dorsal mid-cranial ridge absent; preocular ridge almost absent; genae with both hs and fs; antennae 6 segmented; flagellar segments with mostly fs, these almost indistinguishable from hs; capitate setae restricted to apical antennal segment. Thorax: prescutum with prescutal setae; scutal setae present laterally; scutellum with 1 pair of scutellar setae; postmesospiracular setae abundant, mainly fs; basisternum with abundant setae; metasternal setae common; metaprecoxal ridge very short; postmetaspiracular setae present; tibial spurs undifferentiated; tarsi 1 segmented; tarsal digitules setose; claw digitules capitate; claw with denticle. Abdomen: glandular pouches present on segment VIII; abdominal segment IX barely if at all differentiated from style; penial sheath short, narrowing gradually to a sharp apex, with several pairs of long setae. Comment. Three species in the Gondwanan-group have glandular pouches and a reduced number of antennal segments, namely Eriogallococcus isaias and D. hansoni (Neotropical) and C. merwei from South Africa. They can be easily separated morphologically as E. isaias has 5-segmented antennae, D. hansoni has 6-segmented antennae and C. merwei has 8-segmented antennae. Eriogallococcus Hodgson & Magalhães 2011 Eriogallococcus Hodgson & Magalhães in Hodgson et al. 2011, 56. Type species: Eriogallococcus isaias Hodgson & Magalhães by monotypy and original designation. I ntroduction. This monotypic genus from Brazil induces tall conical galls on the leaflets of Pseudobombax grandiflorum (Malvaceae). The adult male was described in Hodgson et al. (2011), along with a summary of its biology. Generic diagnosis based on adult male morphology of E. isaias (Fig. 33). Body not attenuated and abdomen more or less parallel sided but with a long penial sheath; body setae quite short, with hs and fs almost indistinguishable. Head: quite setose; simple pores absent; head with a few light striations or ridges; dorsal mid-cranial ridge absent; preocular ridge well developed; antennae 5 segmented; flagellar segments with hs and fs, these almost indistinguishable and all long; capitate setae present on apical antennal segment only. Thorax: prescutum with prescutal setae; scutal setae present laterally; scutellum with 0 or 1 scutellar setae; postmesospiracular setae abundant, mainly fs; basisternum with abundant setae; metasternal setae common; postmetaspiracular setae present; tegular setae mostly absent; tarsi 1 segmented; tarsal digitules setose; claw digitules dissimilar but capitate; claws with a denticle. Abdomen: fs almost indistinguishable from hs; glandular pouches present on segment VIII; glandular pouch setae quite short; penial sheath long, about 1/4th total body length, narrowing abruptly, with three quarters of length very narrow; segment IX without setae; with 2 pairs of long setae near apex of style. Comment. The adult males of E. isaias are immediately seperable from other males in this group in having: (i) 5-segmented antennae; (ii) an extremely long, fine penial sheath, and (iii) no or few tegular setae. Lecanodiaspis zygophylli Hodgson, 1973 Material studied: NIGERIA, Zaria, Ahmadu Bello University, on Terminalia catappa (Combretaceae), Oct. 1986, C.J. Hodgson, 1 adult ♀. Comments: Lecanodiaspis zygophylli was originally described from Mauritania, collected on twigs of Zygophyllum waterlotii (Zygophyllaceae) (Hodgson 1973). It is very close to L. africana Newstead but differs in a number of rather subtle characters (contrasting condition in L. africana in brackets), perhaps the most obvious being that L. zygophylli has cribriform plates in four rows (in 2 rows) and the 8-shaped pores on the dorsum are of two sizes distributed in a specific pattern (only one size, more or less randomly distributed). Whilst visiting Nigeria in 1986, the author collected a further specimen of Lecanodiaspis on Terminalia. Whilst this specimen is considered to be L. zygophylli, it differs in a few possibly important characters from the original description, namely (characterstate on original type material in brackets): (i) antennae 7 segmented, although segment IV on one antenna shows slight pseudo-articulation (antennae 8 segmented); (ii) fusion of leg segments even greater than in type material; (iii) claw very reduced, more or less to just a point or even less (claw reasonably normal, with a small denticle); (iv) multilocular disc-pores rapidly decreasing in number anteriorly, with very few in thorax and head (multilocular discpores remaining fairly abundant in thorax and with 1 near each antennal base); (v) ventral setae very few, with none anterior to abdominal segment II (ventral setae scarce but, for instance, inter-antennal setae present); (vi) marginal setae very scarce or absent, almost entirely restricted to near anal lobes (with 6-12 marginal setae on each side); and (vii) with 0 or 1 cribriform plate in each outer 2 rows (3 pores in each outer row). Crystallotesta Henderson & Hodgson Crystallotesta Henderson & Hodgson; Hodgson & Henderson, 2000: 79. Type species: Inglisia fagi Maskell, 1891: 13, by original designation. The genus Crystallotesta was introduced to accommodate 6 species of glassy scale (Cardiococcinae) apparently restricted to New Zealand, mainly on Myrtaceae and Nothofagaceae. There are no records of species of this genus being collected on Polypodiaceae in New Zealand. Hodgson and Henderson (2000) defined this genus (as far as the New Zealand fauna was concerned) as including species which had: (i) numerous 10 -locular pregenital disc-pores across all abdominal segments; (ii) two types of ventral tubular duct, with the larger duct in a submarginal band and the small duct medially on posterior abdominal segments; (iii) abundant spinose marginal setae; (iv) reticulation setae (those on margin where reticulation lines meet margin) often clearly differentiated; (v) with long setae on 2 or 3 pregenital segments; (vi) generally with 2 or 3 pairs of anterior anogential fold setae; (vii) generally with 1 or more simple pores laterad to anal plates, and (viii) test tending to be highly convex, stout and glassy. The test is composed of polygonal glassy plates in either 5 or 7 longitudinal bands, those medially the largest.
