    The Level 3 autonomous vehicle (AV) is now a reality on the public roads. While the emergence of AV is to eliminate the traffic crashes due to human error by 90%, the unexpected or errant drivings on the roads would, however lead to traffic crashes as the operation of AVs are depending on the artificial intelligence, which involve constantly teaching the computer to learn. In Malaysia, motorcycle fatalities accounted for about 60% of the total traffic fatalities, of which the majority of the fatalities were due to human errors. - The presence of motorcyclists in the traffic stream then becomes challenge to the operation of AVs due to the unpredictable and inconsistent behaviour of the motorcyclists. Therefore, to ensure the safe deployment of AVs in the country, this study is taken to unveil the characteristics of certain traffic crashes involving motorcyclists. The findings show that as high as 40% of the motorcycle casualties were due to the motorcycles’ faults. Careless driving, speeding, dangerous overtaking and turning are among the causal factors. The findings shed important insights to AV software programm developers in the process of detecting and processing necessary response plans. Besides, the car makers can also propose more crashworthiness vehicles from the perspective of vulnerable road users.

    Supremacy of realized variance MIDAS egression in volatility forecasting of mutual funds: empirical evidence from Malaysia

    Combining the strength of both Mixed Data Sampling (MIDAS) Regression and realized variance measures, this paper seeks to investigate two objectives: (1) evaluate the post-sample performance of the proposed weekly Realized Variance-MIDAS (RVar-MIDAS) in one-week ahead volatility forecasting against the established Generalized Autoregressive Conditional Heteroskedasticity (GARCH) model and the less explored but robust STES (Smooth Transition Exponential Smoothing) methods. (2) comparing forecast error performance between realized variance and squared residuals measures as a proxy for actual volatility. Data of seven private equity mutual fund indices (generated from 57 individual funds) from two different time periods (with and without financial crisis) are applied to 21 models. Robustness of the post-sample volatility forecasting of all models is validated by the Model Confidence Set (MCS) Procedures and revealed: (1) The weekly RVar-MIDAS model emerged as the best model, outperformed the robust DAILY-STES methods, and the weekly DAILY-GARCH models, particularly during a volatile period. (2) models with realized variance measured in estimation and as a proxy for actual volatility outperformed those using squared residual. This study contributes an empirical approach to one-week ahead volatility forecasting of mutual funds return, which is less explored in past literature on financial volatility forecasting compared to stocks volatility

    Mobility is evolving globally. Automated vehicle technology is consistently advancing with the development of Artificial Intelligence and information communication technology. The Autonomous Vehicle is acknowledged with the benefits of reducing traffic fatalities, reduced emissions and convenience. If autonomous vehicles are widely adopted, the Sustainable Development Goals could be achieved. Various studies have been conducted to investigate the psychological factors (internal) as well as assess the efforts of institutions (external) in promoting the adoption of autonomous vehicles. Nonetheless, there is very few studies examined the impacts of internal and external factors on the acceptance of autonomous vehicles simultaneously. Therefore, this study is taken to close the gap in understanding the acceptance of autonomous vehicles in Malaysia by integrating the internal factors and external factors in a model. By reviewing the past studies, a conceptual framework which can offer a comprehensive insight to the policymakers and car makers from the public’s perspective is proposed. Implications from this study can serve as a basis for prioritising the budget resources and development guidelines for the successful implementation of autonomous vehicles in Malaysia

    Public Acceptance towards Emerging Autonomous Vehicle Technology: A Bibliometric Research

    In the current challenging and competitive dynamic business world today, automotive companies have been rapidly developing and promoting autonomous vehicles (AVs), which aim to reduce crashes, energy consumption, pollution, and congestion and increase transport accessibility. To ensure the successful adoption of AVs, an increasing number of studies have been conducted to understand public acceptance. This paper used the bibliometric technique to understand the distribution, emerging trend, and the research cluster in the context of AV technology acceptance through knowledge mapping. The Web of Science database was used to retrieve 401 scientific articles from 2000 to June 2022. The findings reported that the previous studies mainly focused on the research clusters related to the domains of attitude, trust, technology, impact, and models. Finally, this study added to the existing body of literature by providing the current knowledge landscape to guide the future research
