Extractivism, popular consultations and political rights: the rebirth of local democracy in Colombia?
This article analyzes how from 2010 is happening a new cycle of claims and
conflicts for political rights associated with local democracy through the
requirement of popular referendums to decide on territorial development against
the realization of extractive projects in the municipalities. We explain the dynamics
of collective action, key actors, strategies, repertoires and positions regarding
expansive or restrictive interpretations of political rights, and argue that the
implementation of Popular Consultations at the municipal level represents an
expansion of political rights and renewal of the Colombian local democracy
PregradoIngeniero(a) Civi
Products of distinct Whittaker coefficients on the metaplectic group and the Relative Trace Formula
In this thesis we obtain a geometric identity between Relative Trace Formula on the metaplectic group and the general linear group. As a consequence of the spectral analysis, we expect to obtain a relation between products of distinct Whittaker coefficients of a cuspidal automorphic representation on the metaplectic group and a non-split period of a related representation on the general linear group. This would generalize famous work of Kohnen and Waldspurger.Ph. D.Includes bibliographical referencesIncludes vitaby Cesar Valverd
Most published meta-regression analyses based on aggregate data suffer from methodological pitfalls: a meta-epidemiological study
Abstract Background Due to clinical and methodological diversity, clinical studies included in meta-analyses often differ in ways that lead to differences in treatment effects across studies. Meta-regression analysis is generally recommended to explore associations between study-level characteristics and treatment effect, however, three key pitfalls of meta-regression may lead to invalid conclusions. Our aims were to determine the frequency of these three pitfalls of meta-regression analyses, examine characteristics associated with the occurrence of these pitfalls, and explore changes between 2002 and 2012. Methods A meta-epidemiological study of studies including aggregate data meta-regression analysis in the years 2002 and 2012. We assessed the prevalence of meta-regression analyses with at least 1 of 3 pitfalls: ecological fallacy, overfitting, and inappropriate methods to regress treatment effects against the risk of the analysed outcome. We used logistic regression to investigate study characteristics associated with pitfalls and examined differences between 2002 and 2012. Results Our search yielded 580 studies with meta-analyses, of which 81 included meta-regression analyses with aggregated data. 57 meta-regression analyses were found to contain at least one pitfall (70%): 53 were susceptible to ecological fallacy (65%), 14 had a risk of overfitting (17%), and 5 inappropriately regressed treatment effects against the risk of the analysed outcome (6%). We found no difference in the prevalence of meta-regression analyses with methodological pitfalls between 2002 and 2012, nor any study-level characteristic that was clearly associated with the occurrence of any of the pitfalls. Conclusion The majority of meta-regression analyses based on aggregate data contain methodological pitfalls that may result in misleading findings
Ressonâncias entre Ana Cristina Cesar e James Joyce / What’s in a name? Resonances between Ana Cristina Cesar and James Joyce
Abstract: Ana Cristina Cesar, in Luvas de Pelica (1980), shows us a singular type of intimate diction in which the purpose of the secret is deactivated, and a mixture of travel diary, letters and personal notes is transformed into a space of poetic drift, in which the subject’s position becomes a matter of literature. There is in this text another possibility of understanding what we could call “intimate sphere”, since here, intimacy ends up gaining a different status from that of enclosure, characteristic of previous decades. We know that in this work Katherine Mansfield and Virginia Woolf are referenced, but to what extent could the work of another modern author, James Joyce, shed new light on Ana Cristina’s writing? Joyce intensely addressed the theme of intimacy in his book Ulysses (2012), not only through letters, but also through a stream of consciousness, in which the body matter of the character runs “along” with what is presented to us textually. Taking into account Ana C.’s problematization of the intimate instance, would there be in Luvas de Pelica a kind of Joycean tone reflected in her textual corpus? This paper intends to explore this theme, pointing to possible relationships between the writing strategies of Ulysses and Luvas de Pelica, in order to discover common points that can further illuminate the poetics of the writer from Rio de Janeiro. Keywords: Ana Cristina Cesar; James Joyce; Intimacy; Feminine
Chiropractic Care and Risk For Acute Lumbar Disc Herniation: A Mixed Methods Approach
Objective: To advance knowledge of the risk for acute lumbar disc herniation (LDH) following chiropractic care. The objectives were to: (1) synthesize current evidence on the incidence and determinants of LDH with radiculopathy in adults; (2) determine clinicians’ beliefs regarding the risk for acute LDH associated with chiropractic spinal manipulation treatment (SMT); and, (3) investigate associations between both chiropractic and primary care physician (PCP) care, and acute LDH with incident early surgery.
Methods: (1) Systematic review of the literature. (2) Belief elicitation interviews with 47 chiropractors, family physicians and spine surgeons. Probability distributions for the relative risk (RR) for acute LDH associated with chiropractic SMT were derived. (3) Self- controlled case series study using Ontario administrative health data. Incidence ratios for acute LDH with early surgery in exposed periods after chiropractic visits relative to unexposed periods were estimated within individuals, and compared with incidence ratios following PCP visits.
Results: (1) The annual incidence of LDH with radiculopathy ranges between 0.1% and 10%, and varies with the case definition. Risk factors included individual, behavioural and work-related characteristics. (2) In the belief elicitation study, chiropractors expressed the most optimistic belief (median RR, 0.56; IQR, 0.39-1.03); family physicians, a neutral belief (median RR, 0.97; IQR, 0.64-1.21); and spine surgeons, a more pessimistic belief (median RR, 1.07; IQR, 0.95-1.29). (3) The self-controlled case series study found positive associations between both chiropractic and PCP visits, and surgically managed acute LDH. There was no more risk associated with visits to chiropractors than with visits to PCPs.
Conclusions: (1) The best evidence synthesis shows the varying quality and heterogeneity of the epidemiologic literature on LDH with radiculopathy. There is a need to develop standardized case definitions that validly classify the clinical spectrum. (2) Clinicians’ beliefs about the risk for acute LDH associated with chiropractic SMT varied systematically across professions. The derived probability distributions can serve as prior probabilities in Bayesian analyses of this exposure-outcome association. (3) Patients with prodromal back pain related to a developing disc herniation may seek healthcare from both chiropractors and PCPs before full clinical expression of acute LDH that is subsequently surgically managed.Ph.D.2017-02-12 00:00:0
