Single cell analyses of ES cells reveal alternative pluripotent cell states and molecular mechanisms that control self-renewal

    No full text
Analyses of gene expression in single mouse embryonic stem cells (mESCs) cultured in serum and LIF revealed the presence of two distinct cell subpopulations with individual gene expression signatures. Comparisons with published data revealed that cells in the first subpopulation are phenotypically similar to cells isolated from the inner cell mass (ICM). In contrast, cells in the second subpopulation appear to be more mature. Pluripotency Gene Regulatory Network (PGRN) reconstruction based on single-cell data and published data suggested antagonistic roles for Oct4 and Nanog in the maintenance of pluripotency states. Integrated analyses of published genomic binding (ChIP) data strongly supported this observation. Certain target genes alternatively regulated by OCT4 and NANOG, such as Sall4 and Zscan10, feed back into the top hierarchical regulator Oct4. Analyses of such incoherent feedforward loops with feedback (iFFL-FB) suggest a dynamic model for the maintenance of mESC pluripotency and self-renewal

    No full text
Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer ScienceTelecommunicatie- en Verkeersbegeleidingssysteme

Book Review: Encyclopedia of American Women and Religion, 2nd Ed.

    No full text
Women have had a major role in religion throughout history but have been consistently overlooked, providing a sound purpose and intention for this two-volume encyclopedia. The expertise shown in the comprehensive coverage is a credit to the author, June Melby Benowitz, a history professor whose research emphasizes the history of women. These volumes primarily cover the nineteenth, twentieth, and early twenty-first century. The individual entries are relatively short, between five and six paragraphs. It is a perfect starting point in the research process for students in American history, women’s studies, or theology classes. </jats:p

Balancing Tradition and Tourism: Crafting an Effective Marketing Strategy for Belize\u27s National Parks

    No full text
This thesis reflects on a summer internship in the small town of Dangriga, Belize. The author interned at Mayflower Bocawina National Park, a role made possible through Dr. Amy Farmer and Mr. Steve Darr. While tourism plays a significant role in Belize’s economic development, communities like Dangriga remain underdeveloped in their tourism strategies. The author and her partner collaborated to design a targeted marketing plan for Mayflower Bocawina National Park, aimed at increasing visitor engagement and boosting local tourism revenue

Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer ScienceTransmissie van Informati

Enhancing Visitor Experience through Marketing for the Mayflower Bocawina National Park

    No full text
This thesis outlines a summer internship in Dangriga, Belize, where the author worked with Mayflower Bocawina National Park facilitated by Dr. Amy Farmer and Steve Darr. Dangriga faces challenges in the tourism industry due to competition from larger entities who have more resources and infrastructure. The author and their partner developed a marketing strategy for the park\u27s new glamping experience and mountain bike trail, evolving into a comprehensive plan encompassing SEO, website management, and operational optimization. The project aimed to enhance the park\u27s competitiveness, generate sustainable revenue, and support its growth and improvement initiatives
