Get PDFEn esta investigación se buscó de manera sistemática integrar, en primera instancia, el estudio de las viviendas y los enterramientos humanos, y en segunda, la información procedente de tres yacimientos (Portalegre, Las Delicias y Candelaria La Nueva), con el ánimo de propiciar una mirada investigativa a nivel regional en el sur de la Sabana de Bogotá para el periodo Muisca Temprano y Tardío, planteando una interpretación desde un modelo teórico basado en el concepto de ―casa‖ que propone una analogía arqueológica para interpretar contextos domésticos y funerarios en conjunto (Gillespie, 2000b) (Carsten and Hugh-Jones, 1995) (Henderson and Ostler, 2005). Con dicha propuesta de investigación e interpretación de los contextos domésticos y funerarios de los tres sitios arqueológicos ubicados al sur de la Sabana de Bogotá, se concluyó, por medio de análisis espaciales y estadísticos, la existencia de una lógica de colectividades que se expresó materialmente en estos yacimientos, pero que empieza a pronunciarse de forma más marcada tardíamente hacia el siglo XII d.C. en Soacha ―Portalegre―.Abstract. This research integrated the information about houses and human burials from three archaeological sites (Portalegre, Las Delicias y Candelaria La Nueva) in order to encourage an analytical regional view of the south of the Sabana de Bogotá (Colombia) in times of the Muisca Temprano and Muisca Tardío periods. I proposed an interpretation regarding a theoretical model based on a concept called ―casa‖ that allow us to study together domestic and funerary contexts on the archaeological record (Gillespie, 2000b) (Carsten and Hugh-Jones, 1995) (Henderson and Ostler, 2005). Based on that model and using spatial and statistical analysis, I concluded there was a groupal logic materially expressed at the three settlements which became stronger and clearer with the pass of the centuries at the archaeological site Soacha–Portalegre (Century XII A.D.)Maestrí

Henderson (of the Smithsonian Institution) to Oscar Monnig stating that he made it back to Washington D.C. comfortably, and that he has looked at the sample of Tishomingo while also sending it out for others to look at. Further states that he is at that time hesitant to comment on whether or not it is a meteorite due to its odd structure. Also mentions that he has been sent another meteorite specimen, and wonders if Monnig knows anything about it. Finally, says that he has asked for a search for the Harriman, Tennessee meteorite as he had thought it returned and thus put it out of his mind

The photocopy was made by D.C. artist, author, and musician Sharon Cheslow as part of the research for "Banned in D.C.," a book she co-authored with Cynthia Connolly and Leslie Clague
Behavioural Analysis of Component-Based Systems
No full textSoftware Engineers continue to search for efficient ways to build high quality systems. Two contrasting techniques that promise to help with the effective construction of high quality systems are the use of formal models during design and the use of components during development. In this paper, we take the position that these techniques work well together. Hardware Engineers have shown that building systems from components has brought enormous benefits. Using components permits hardware engineers to consider systems at an abstract level, making it possible for them to build and reason about systems that would otherwise be too large and complex to understand. It also enables them to make effective reuse of existing designs. It seems reasonable to expect that using components in software development will also bring advantages. Formal methods provide a means to reason about a program (or system) enabling the creation of programs which can be proved to meet their specifications. However, the size of real systems makes these methods impractical for any but the simplest of structures constructing a complete formal specification for a commercial system is a daunting task. Using formal methods for the whole of a large commercial system is not practical, but some of the advantages of using them can be obtained where a system is to be built from communicating components, by building and evaluating a formal model of the system. We describe how a model of a system to be implemented using COM might be constructed using a particular modelling tool, RolEnact. We discuss the extent to which validation of the model contributes to the validity of the eventual solution

No full textFlier advertising State of Alert (S.O.A) concert at d.c. space, with Untouchables, Minor Threat, Type-O, Nurses, Fluffy Pig, and Wiggly Mittens, Washington, D.C., December 17-18, 1980. These concerts were also known as the Unheard Music festival. Within a year, S.O.A. vocalist Henry Garfield joined the influential California hardcore punk Black Flag and changed his last name to Rollins. He went on to a successful career as a musician, author, actor, television host and more. Guitarist Michael Hampton went on to play in the notable D.C. bands The Faith, Embrace, The Snakes, and Manifesto. These concerts were some of the first performances by Minor Threat. Fronted by vocalist Ian MacKaye (who went on to play in the bands Fugazi, Embrace, and The Evens), Minor Threat went on to become the definitive D.C. hardcore punk band

Flood defenses Washington D.C.
No full textThe United States of America have a safety standard for flood protection of 1/100 year. However the flood protections in the Washington D.C. do not comply with this requirement. During this study the levees in Washington D.C. area were analysed and it was found, that in order to comply with the 1/100 safety standard the levees in the NationalMall needs to be heighten by 0.5mand those near the Anacostia river by 1.5m. The safety standard of 1/100 imposed in the United States of America is not based on exact calculation, therefore another design method was applied, which uses an optimal safety level based on the damage cost of floods and investment cost of flood protections.The calculation of the optimal return period was based on the ’Standaardmethode 2017’ and it was found that the optimal return period at the NationalMall levee is 1/263 years. At the southern bank of the Anacostia river this optimal return period is 1/373 year. With these return periods new levees were designed in order to ensure the safety of the area of Washington D.C. There were two new levees needed around the National mall. The first was situated north of the Lincolnmemory along the Potomac river and the second replaces the temporary flood defence by the 2nd street SW and had an L-shape facing the Potomac river. The Anacostia levee was stretched on the East side in order to comply with the new 1/373 year safety standard. The old and new National mall levees needed a height of 3.5 m and those by the Anacostia needed a height of 8.5 m. It is important to take cautionwith these new levees as some houses needed to be removed. An attempt was made at modelling the above mentioned floods in ADCIRC to improve the accuracy of the design water levels and to verify the final design. However, the model showed instabilities, preventing the results from being used.Explanations for these instabilities are the incoming water not being properly ramped up, the large vertical gradients in shallow areas and the upstream and downstream boundaries being too close to each other.MP278Multidisciplinary Projec
