Multiple Source Cooperation: From Code Division Multiplexing To Variable-Rate Network Coding
Multiple-source cooperation techniques, including conventional code-division multiplexing (CDM) and classic network coding (CNC), are investigated. We adopt a soft sum - product decoding algorithm for the CNC technique to efficiently process a large number of information streams and propose a flexible variable-rate network coding (VNC) technique, which is capable of attaining a near-optimum performance. Quantitatively, the proposed VNC method is capable of operating within 1 dB from the outage capacity of the quasi-static Rayleigh fading channel. The iterative decoding convergence of the multiple-source computation methods is analyzed with the aid of extrinsic information transfer charts
Toward a Motivation Model of Pragmatics/ Rong Chen.
In English. With the "discursive turn" has come a distrust - a complete rejection by some - of theories that seek deeper reasons for surface phenomena. Rong Chen argues that this distrust, with its accompanying overemphasis on specificity and fluidity of linguistic meaning and social values, is unwarranted and unhelpful. Drawing on insights from social theories and various strands of pragmatics, he proposes a motivation model of pragmatics (MMP), contending that language use can be adequately, coherently, and elegantly studied via the motivation behind it in its varied and dynamic contexts. The model, with its well-laid out components, is then applied to (im)politeness research, cross-cultural pragmatics, diachronic pragmatics, discourse and genre analysis, conversation analysis, identity construction, and the study of metaphor, sarcasm, parody, and lying. MMP is thus a framework aimed at accounting for fluidity with stable notions, specificity with general principles, and differences with similar underlying factors. As such, the book should appeal to students of pragmatics, (im)politeness, conversation analysis, sociolinguistics, applied linguistics, communication, sociology, and psychology.Frontmatter -- Foreword -- Contents -- List of figures -- List of tables -- Chapter 1 Pragmatics then and now -- Chapter 2 A motivation model of pragmatics (MMP) -- Chapter 3 MMP and (im)politeness -- Chapter 4 MMP and cross-/intercultural variation -- Chapter 5 MMP and diachronic pragmatics -- Chapter 6 MMP and discourse -- Chapter 7 MMP and metaphor -- Chapter 8 MMP and the non-literal -- Afterword -- References -- Appendix -- Subject index -- Author index1 online resource (XIII, 333 p.)
Cooperative Downlink Multicell Preprocessing Relying on Reduced-Rate Back-Haul Data Exchange
Different-complexity multicell preprocessing (MCP) schemes employing distributed signal-to-interference leakage-plus-noise ratio (SILNR) precoding techniques are proposed, which require reduced back-haul data exchange in comparison with the conventional MCP structure. Our results demonstrate that the proposed structures are capable of increasing the throughput achievable in the cell-edge area while offering different geographic rate profile distributions, as well as meeting different delay requirements

A service engineering approach to inter-domain TMN system development
The deployment of service management systems in a multi-service environment opens a whole area of issues. Requirements for openness and reusability can be satisfied by following a service engineering approach where the service management functionality is decomposed to reusable service components. Such an approach that was based on TMN technology is presented in this paper and conclusions are drawn about the potential of other available technologies with regard to service management

Jiang Rong, Le Totem du loup, (Wolf Totem) translated by Yan Hansheng and Lisa Carducci
Published in China in 2004 by Changjiang wenyi chubanshe, Jiang Rong’s novel Lang tuteng (Wolf Totem) was immediately a phenomenal success. I myself witnessed this success while in China, where bookshops displayed multiple stacks of the book. Its author, Jiang Rong, the pseudonym of Lu Jiamin, was an activist in the Tiananmen Square movement in 1989; now a researcher in social sciences and the husband of Zhang Kangkang, a well-known writer, Jiang Rong maintained a mystery surrounding his iden..
Three design aspects of multicarrier interleave division multiple access
This paper presents a novel generalized transceiver architecture, i.e., Multicarrier Interleave-Division-Multiplexing-aided Interleave Division Multiple Access (MC-IDM-IDMA). A parallel interference cancellation (PIC)-aided iterative multiuser detection (MUD) algorithm is introduced, and the convergence behavior of the system is evaluated with the aid of EXtrinsic Information Transfer (EXIT) charts under the assumption of an equal-power multiuser scenario. Three interesting design tradeoffs of the MC-IDM-IDMA system are analyzed: 1) the multiplexing versus diversity tradeoffs; 2) the coding versus spreading tradeoffs, where the achievable bandwidth efficiency of both MC-IDM and MC-IDMA are characterized, and a general design rule is provided for low-rate codes; and 3) the complexity versus performance tradeoffs and the EXIT characteristics of two different MUD algorithms are investigated, leading to a reduced-complexity hybrid MU
