    Robert L. (Bob) Haught was born in Lawton, Oklahoma in 1930. He served in the Oklahoma Thunderbirds, the 45th Infantry division of the National Guard. After completing his tour of duty he entered the University of Oklahoma, earning a journalism degree in 1954. Following college graduation, Bob accepted a position with the United Press, which later became United Press International (UPI). He began a sixteen year career association with former Oklahoma Governor and U.S. Senator Henry Bellmon when he was asked to be press secretary during Bellmons first term as governor. He would later be called upon again by Bellmon, this time as publicity director for the successful Bellmon for Senate campaign
