Sustainable development from an Islamic Perspective: meaning implications and policy concerns
Get PDFAbstract This paper examines the debate on the meaning of sustainable development and the policy implications of different approaches from an Islamic perspective. It integrates mainstream and Islamic positions on the subject and argues that to whatever definition of sustainable development one might subscribe, eventually, each ends in an environmental concern. This paper attempts to show that the continuous increase in output of goods and services worldwide imposes a trade off between material prosperity on the one hand and pollution poisoning of human beings on the other. It engages in the intensifying debate about how the benefits of the former and the negative impact of the latter could be more evenly distributed. The paper takes inspiration from the maqasid (objectives) of the Shari’ah and verses of the holy Qur’an that indicate a way out of this impasse. It holds that the worldview differences of secularism and Islam are the basic reason of divergence between their approaches to development. It argues that the Islamic approach is more agreeable to environmental protection and concludes that issues surrounding sustainable development have moral, ethical, social, and political complexities and that economics or economists alone cannot resolve the problem.Sustainable; Development; Islamic perspective; Policy concerns

Söz konusu amaç doğrultusunda, uygulaması Artist Sanat Galerisinde gerçekleştirilen yaratıcı yazma sürecine ilişkin bir çalışma, eylem odaklı öğretim temel alınarak, hazırlık aşamasından değerlendirme aşamasına ayrıntılı bir biçimde tanıtılmıştır. Tanıtımda 'eylem odaklı öğretim nedir' ve 'nasıl gerçekleştirilebilir' sorularına odaklanılmıştır. Uygulama aşaması İstanbul Üniversitesi Hasan Ali Yücel Eğitim Fakültesi Alman Dili Eğitiminde öğrenim gören öğretmen adaylarının sanat galerisinde gerçekleştirdikleri yaratıcı yazma çalışmaları ile somutlaştırılmıştır. Pesatnya perkembangan teknologi dan informasi menjadi problematika baru. Ketidakbijakan masyarakat khususnya generasi Z terhadap arus perkembangan tersebut menimbulkan nilai moralitas menurun seperti bullying, pergaulan bebas, pencurian, tawuran, miras dan narkoba, social media anxiety sampai pada kasus kematian akibat kekerasan. Hal tersebut merupakan gejala dari dekadensi moral yang banyak menyelimuti kalangan generasi Z di Indonesia. Guna menanggulangi permasalahan tersebut harus memiliki adab mu’asyarah atau yang sering disebut dengan adab pergaulan. Setiap individu harus dibekali pemahaman mengenai adab mu’asyarah atau bergaul dalam Islam, supaya pergaulan itu memberikan kebaikan bagi dirinya. Salah satunya adalah dengan mempelajari adab pergaulan yang telah disebutkan dalam kitab Taisi<r Al-Khalla<q karya Syekh Hafidz Hasan Al-Mas’udi. Adab pergaulan yang sudah dipelajari harus bisa ditanamkan dalam kehidupan sehingga mampu membentuk moralitas generasi Z.
Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan konsep adab pergaulan dalam kitab Taisi<r Al-Khalla<q karya Syekh Hafidz Hasan Al-Mas’udi, dan menjelaskan relevansi konsep adab pergaulan dalam kitab Taisi<r Al-Khalla<q karya Syekh Hafidz Hasan Al-Mas’udi terhadap pembentukan moralitas generasi Z.
Metode penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif dengan jenis penelitian kepustakaan (library research). Penelitian ini dilaksanakan dengan bertumpu pada data-data kepustakaan, yaitu mengkaji kitab Taisi<r Al-Khalla<q karya Syekh Hafidz Hasan Al-Mas’udi kemudian di analisis dengan menggunakan metode content analisis yaitu suatu metode yang menggunakan teknik sistematik untuk menganalisis isi pesan dan mengolah pesan. Sehingga memperoleh gambaran atau kesimpulan yang jelas mengenai isi materi kajian yang telah ditentukan.
Adapun hasil analisis data ditemukan bahwa (1) konsep adab pergaulan yang terkandung dalam kitab Taisi<r Al-Khalla<q karya Syekh Hafidz Hasan Al-Mas’udi, yaitu: a. Berwajah manis; b. Lemah lembut; c. Mendengar pembicaraan teman; d. Sopan tanpa sombong; e. Diam saat bercanda; f. Memaafkan kesalahan; g. Berlapang dada; h. Menolong teman; i. Tidak berbangga dengan kemegahan dan kekayaan.(2) terdapat relevansi antara konsep adab pergaulan dalam kitab Taisi<r Al-Khalla<q karya Syekh Hafidz Hasan Al-Mas’udi terhadap pembentukan moralitas generasi Z. Adapun nilai moralitas generasi Z yang relevan dengan konsep adab pergaulan dalam kitab Taisi<r Al-Khalla<q yaitu menghormati orang lain, kepedulian sosial, kontrol diri, dan tanggung jawab. Dengan demikian, Syekh Hafidz Hasan Al-Mas’udi memberikan petunjuk bagaimana adab yang seharusnya dimiliki oleh seseorang ketika bergaul dengan orang lain dan menjauhi perilaku yang tercela yang telah disebutkan dalam kitab Taisi<r Al-Khalla<q
The impact of CFO gender on bank loan contracting
Get PDFMotivated by recent studies that show female CFOs are more risk averse than male CFOs when making various corporate decisions, we examine whether banks take into consideration the gender of CFOs when pricing bank loans. We find that in our sample, firms under the control of female CFOs on average enjoy about 11% lower bank loan price than firms under the control of male CFOs. In addition, loans given to female CFO-led companies have longer maturities and are less likely to be required to provide collateral than loans given to male CFO led companies. Our results are robust to a series of robustness tests, such as a firm and year-fixed effect regression, a Heckman two-stage self selection model, a propensity score match method and a differences-in-differences approach. Overall, our results suggest that banks tend to recognize the role of female CFOs in providing more reliable accounting information ex ante and reducing default risk ex post, and grant firms with female CFOs lower loan price and more favourable contract terms.CFOs; gender; accounting information; bank loans
