The organization which managed the project was Maasai Women Development Organization. People involved in the project were the researcher, MWEDO staff and the targeted three member groups, in total there were 90 individuals. The intended period for the project was 18 months, from September 2005 to January 2007. The target groups were carrying out small scale businesses mainly on Maasai hand crafts, embroidering, buying and selling maize. Findings from community needs assessment indicated that women lacked knowledge and skills especially in the field of accounts record keeping, and entrepreneurship. Hence, they could not diversify their businesses. The project desired condition was to build the ability of individuals and organization to work together in order to take control of their economic future. Also strengthen individual skills and create opportunities for individual skill development. What the project had achieved was to build human capacity of Community Development Officer to ensure sustainability of the project after elapse of 18 months. This survey quantitatively characterized the topics of sustainable education, subsidization and basic needs for street children of CCF in Arusha City. The survey included the following criteria; type of task, size of application, question scoring, reliability, validity and survey duration. Children for Children's Future (CCF) is a registered organization that serves children of Arusha City and Arumeru District under the "Street Children" Project. The situation of street children has been growing in size, whereby at every key location of street children, approximately 10 to 15 children are found. Dr, H. Rwegoshora (2002). The economic crisis of Tanzania has been described as a major cause of poverty which has destroyed family structures. The aim of the street children project has been to empower, protect, and provide basic needs to street children. The organization worked in collaboration with local government, religious leaders, institutions and parents. The interaction and involvement of stakeholders has been to identify root causes of problems, and have them participate fully in the project and decision making process. On research methodology, the researcher used cross-section design, because data could easily capture accurate measurement at a given point in time. A sample was collected from selected areas of Arusha Municipal. Questionnaires were inserted face to face, and a group discussion was employed. The survey findings could be presented to the community, public, and readers who show interest in the precise phrasing of the street children inquiries. The SWOT analysis from CCF organization revealed that significant training was needed e.g. proposal writing and managerial skills in order to capitalize and accomplish the mission and objectives. Moreover, Children for Children Future organization were a donor dependant. Consequently, CCF was facing problems of poor services rendered to the street children at their centers. This paper presents a summary of social, economic and psychological problems that people living with HIV/AIDS face from community members as a result of stigma and discrimination related to HIV/AIDS. The project area is Yombo Machimbo in Yombo Ward, Temeke Municipality in Dar es Salaam City. The Project paper firstly defines stigma and discrimination and identifies problems faced by People Living with AIDS (PLWHA). The study focused on WAYAWAVI who are window/widowers and orphans living with HIV/AIDS in Yombo Machimbo, Temeke Municipality. Some of the study recommendations were used for implementation of activities which would minimize stigmatization among community members. The study also addressed different aspects of implementation and participation which leads to sustainability of the project as the stigmatization related to HIV/AIDS is rampant. Finally the study identified some monitoring and evaluation mechanisms of the project.Stigma and discrimination related to HIV/AIDS are permanent problems in many communities with high prevalence rate including Tanzania. This tends to affect the quality of care and services provided to people affected and infected with HIV/AIDS. This entails a huge problem in up take of HIV services such as voluntary counseling and testing, as well as prevention of mother-to-child transmission. Stigma and discrimination is caused by a number of things, including lack of knowledge among community members about transmission, risk and copying strategies. (Author abstract)Kayungilizi, J. F. This project paper examines the project, which was implemented during the life span of CED program September 2005 to January 2007 in collaboration with Business Entrepreneur Support Unit (BEST) the host organization. The project title is "Enhancing accessibility and utilization of micro credit among women and youths in the two villages of Valeska and Malula, Arumeru district, Arusha region". The survey was conducted in collaboration with BEST. The sample size was 89 respondents from Malula and Valesca villages, 4 staff from MFIs, 2 staff from Arumeru DCDD and 3 staff from BEST. The methodology used include structured interviews, direct observation, focus group discussions, key informants interviews, questionnaires, documentation and field visits. The main findings revealed the following as the main causes of inadequate/lack of micro credit in the two villages: -Most micro credit institution are not attracted to provide services in the rural areas due to higher risks related to rural activities; Remoteness of the villages that causes longer transport distances, travel costs due to poor infrastructures; High operational costs which force the interest rate to be very high, ranged from 20% to 40% for MFIs and 10% per year for the government funds. Therefore, micro credit institutions and the government credit funds should reach in the villages to cater for the poor people and not to concentrate in urban and semi urban. By doing so the women and youths will be able to run profitable business and improve their well-being. This project paper presents a comprehensive range of issues useful for purpose of policy formulation and practical interventions in the rural areas for micro credit institutions. Capacity building on children rights, Arusha Municipality

    No full text
In Tanzania, Children's rights have yet to achieve a central place on the public agenda. Children's voices are just 'slightly' being heard in some aspect but the listeners sometimes opt for dumbness than listen to children. The power and clarity of the voices of young people who speak about their future and the importance of realizing their right is crucial towards achieving a more just and peaceful society. The struggle of children who have been abused and neglected (or left without parental care) seems to push a lot of children to streets where they believe they can make a living through begging and small businesses. Most realize when it is almost too late that, out there, life is more insecure. In fact, they are made to have no other option to take. Too many children are made to face terrible violence and abuse in the streets, but to them, this environment feels to be harmonious than their formal parents' life. Aiming at improving the welfare of children, CHISWEA found it important, that the society is educated on the children rights so that much louder voices made by the children are given attention and therefore addressed at family, national and regional level. Strategic plan, 2007 - 2010 for Rubya Association

Since Rubya Association (RUA) was registered as an NGO in 1994 it had not been able to provide funds to its constituent communities and its members despite this being RUA's Constitutional objective. On the other hand the RUA financial capacity remained weak and dependent on members' subscriptions and contributions. The collected amount was not enough to provide support to the social and economic development activities of its members and con-stituent communities in Rubya area in Nshamba Division. RUA had initiated strategies to improve its financial capacity and general performance. RUA started the development fund and procured the 'Unit' shares from the Unit Trust. But RUA had realized that it also lacked the framework of making decisions. The RUA Community Needs Assessment (CNA) was carried out using the mix of techniques. One of the CNA technique employed was the survey using questionnaires. The responses from the survey were synthesized and analyzed using the SPSS software (Version 10). The findings of the Needs Assessment indicated that the performance of RUA was faced with general and specific issues. But the stakeholders agreed that the critical issues were to review the purpose and strategic direction of the organization as well as improve RUA's financial capacity. Following this, the RUA strategic planning process was initiated with first carrying out the organization assessment, and developing the RUA vision, Mission and values. The strategic planning process continues. (Author abstract)Rwechungura, A. S. (2007). Strategic plan, 2007 - 2010 for Rubya Association. The project aimed at building capacity of LKWIA on HIV/AIDS infection prevention, treatment and stigma reduction. Lemara Kati Women In Action (LKWIA) is a Community Based Organization formed by 20 women and was the target group. The project duration was eighteen months (September, 2005 to January 2007). Through authentic Community participation the researcher conducted Community Needs Assessment (CNA) on 27th September 2005. Many needs and problems were identified, prioritized and ranked. In that exercise, "Inadequate capacity in handling people living with HIV/AIDs (PLWHAS) was scored first. The researcher conducted a scientific research to confirm the CNA after three months and findings revealed that LKWIA group had the same needs and problems. LKWIA desired training on the causes of HIV/AIDS infection, transmission, prevention, treatment of opportunist infections, referral of patients to Health Facilities for care and treatment. The project implementation involved manual preparation, training, monitoring and evaluation using agreed indicators and participatory methods. The monitoring and evaluation showed that LKWIA group had gained confidence dealing with HIV/AIDS and in preventing themselves from infections service provision. In addition, their confidence had warranted them to provide health education sessions in the community thus it was revealed that community awareness had raised, as well as stigma had been reduced and PLWHAS were able to live a healthier life that allowed them to produce their basic needs and contribute to their family and national income.
