The generals talk about the Chinese military strategy, the events of battle and specific campaigns, number of casualties, anticipation of winning the war and its aftermath. The diaries are part of the Harrison Forman Papers 1931-1974 housed at the Special Collections & University Archives, University of Oregon Libraries. Harrison Forman, photographer and journalist, writes in this diary about his flight to the gold mining town of Tipuani in La Paz, Bolivia. Forman begins the diary writing about flying over the high peaks of the Huayna Potosí Mountain. He briefly mentions the Pulperia – company store – where many imports from the United States are sold. Forman gives a brief history of mining in Bolivia and begins his observations of the gold mining operations. He comments on families panning for gold, how much money miners make per day, prices for food and entertainment, the nationalization of mines, and the export of gold to the United States. Forman states the "…estimate will be at least [a] million and a half U.S. dollars yearly – a much needed source of foreign exchange to bolster a shaky currency." He also mentions the amount of gold mined each month that is stolen and smuggled out of Bolivia. Forman continues his account of his flight, mentioning the disorganized air strip, lack of safety checks, and the pilots who perform daredevil techniques to take off and land the plane. Forman concludes the diary with a brief discussion about wine and champagne production. The diaries are part of the Harrison Forman Papers 1931-1974 housed at the Special Collections & University Archives, University of Oregon Libraries.
