Mandibular swelling as the first manifestation of Non Hodgkin’s lymphoma : A case report
No full textNon Hodgkin’s lymphoma is also called as lymphosarcoma and involves neoplastic proliferation of lymphoid cells affecting the B- lymphocytes. Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL)is the most common form ofNon Hodgkin’s lymphomaand accounts for about 30% of NHL . It is an aggressive form of NHL that often (about 40% of the time) involves organs other than lymph nodes. Jaw involvement by NHL is very rare, but among jaw lesions, maxilla is more commonly involved than mandible. This case report describes a case of Non Hodgkin’s lymphoma ofDiffuse large B-cell type with primary in the mandible , which presented as a mandibular swelling as the first sign of the disease. The timely biopsy and immunohistiochemistry were instrumental in the diagnosis. The lymphoma had not disseminated and management by chemo-radiation allowed for disease eradication and new, post-treatment, bone formation
