Through a lens of visitation
No full textThrough a lens of visitation (2021) is an exhibition of works by D Harding (some new and some previously exhibited), alongside works by his mother Kate Harding, as well as a book published by Monash University Art Museum. The project focuses on the influence of Carnarvon Gorge on key Australian modernists (Margaret Preston and Sidney Nolan) as well as its significance for the work of the two Hardings. Kate Harding is a descendent of the Bidjara, Ghungalu and Garingbal peoples of central Queensland. D Harding’s research question is about the continuation of cultural knowledge and forms, namely: how to think about Indigenous cultural continuity in a contemporary context. In this exhibition, the question is both personal (traced through his matrilineal line) and political: how can cultural forms be made in diaspora. </p

She describes herself as a cook of the improvisational, what\u27s-in-the-cupboard school, which is also, possibly not coincidentally, [her] strategy with writing, and as someone who was raised in Berkeley in the 1960s, long before the Bay Area became the American locavore/foodie mecca. She now lives in Portland, Maine, and the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Her food memoir is Blue Plate Special: An Autobiography of My Appetites (Doubleday, 2013). She is currently collaborating with Barbara Lynch, the Boston chef, on her memoir
