VCR: Virtual community recommender using the technology acceptance model and the users needs type
A recommender system is a kind of automated and sophisticated decision support system that is needed to provide a personalized solution in a brief form without going through a complicated search process. There have been a substantial number of studies to make recommender systems more accurate and efficient, however, most of them have a common critical limitation - these systems are used as virtual salespeople, rather than as marketing tools. A crucial reason for this phenomenon is that the models suggested by prior studies only focus on a user's behavioral outcomes without consideration of the embedded procedure. In this study, we propose a novel recommender system based on user's behavioral model. Our proposed system, labeled VCR virtual community recommender, recommends optimal virtual communities for an active user by case-based reasoning (CBR) using behavioral factors suggested in the technology acceptance model (TAM) and its extended models. In addition, it refines its recommendation results by considering the user's needs type at the point of usage. To test the usefulness of our recommendation model, we conducted two-step validation-empirical validation for the collected data set, and practical validation to investigate the actual satisfaction level of users. Experimental results showed that our model outperformed all comparative models from the perspective of user satisfaction. (c) 2006 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved

The influence of Mn and Cr on the tensile properties of A356-0.2OFe alloy
In the present work, Mn and Cr were added to a commercial A356 (Al-7.0Si-0.38Mg-0.12Ti-0.02Sr in wt.%)-0.20Fe cast alloy to control the crystallization of beta-Al5FeSi. The tensile properties are compared in terms of the way the microstructures changed before and after the addition of 0.20Mn and 0.13Mn-0.13Cr. The addition of 0.20Mn causes the acicular P-Al5FeSi to be replaced by granular or skeletal alpha-Al(Mn,Fe)Si in solidification, and the additions of 0.13Mn-0.13Cr acts as an effective replacing element of beta-Al5FeSi. Moreover, the addition of 0.20Mn functionally improves the strength, and the addition of 0.13Mn-0.13Cr improves the strain as well as the strength compared to a commercial A356 cast alloy. Finding Hy-Brasil: The Gateway Between Reality And Unreality
Through Irish history, different spiritual demands in specific historical moments impacts on the legends of Hy-Brasil. In turn, the stories of Hy-Brasil reflects the history of Ireland through its possible position, appearances, items events, viewpoints gateways and monuments. The project is to use the history of Hy-Brasil, a mystical island of Ireland, to explore the architecture of myth, which are expected to be triggered and formed by the current situation of Ireland. It looks to design a pragmatic space by providing a gateway to the mythic island of Hy-Brasil. Siting on the north end the Ireland, the Lough Foyle in Donegal, the project constructs an architectural artifact out of a particular strata of Ireland’s specific geology and monumental landscape to take people into the imagination and expectation of perceive the Irish mythology. The Berlage Post-MSc in Architecture and Urban Desig
Oxide-apertured photodetector integrated on vertical cavity surface emitting laser
The authors have designed and fabricated oxide-apertured photodetectors Integrated with vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSELs). The photocurrent originating from spontaneous emission is suppressed by more than a factor of 10 in this integrated photodetector owing to the use of nonradiative recombination at the GaAs/oxide interface. In addition, the unavoidable internal loss from the detector is minimised by locating the GaAs detection layer as far as possible from the VCSEL cavity. The authors are grateful to K.H. Ha for helpful discussion, to H.W. Choi for deutron implantation, and to Samsung for the VCSEL wafer
Effects of Mn on the crystal structure of alpha-Al(Mn,Fe)Si particles in A356 alloys
In a commercial Al-7.0Si-0.38Mg cast alloy (A356) with 0.20wt% Fe, added Mn modifies acicular beta-Al5FeSi particles to less acicular alpha-Al(Mn,Fe)Si in both crystallization and precipitation conditions. The crystal structure of alpha-Al(Mn,Fe)Si changes from body-centered cubic (bcc)/ simple cubic (sc) to Pm3 structures in response to an increase in the bulk Mn content of the alloy. The alpha-Al(Mn,Fe)Si particles (50-200nm) precipitate during solution treatment and their precipitation temperature is about 485 degrees C in the as-cast condition. (c) 2006 Elsevier B.V. Continuous room-temperature operation of optically pumped two-dimensional photonic crystal lasers at 1.6 mu m
In this letter, continuous operation is realized from two-dimensional slab photonic crystal lasers at room temperature, The laser structure is prepared by wafer fusion of an InGaAsP active layer with an AlAs layer that is wet oxidized into an Al2O3 layer subsequently. The incident threshold pump power at 0.98 mum is 9.2 mW for a similar to 10-mum-diameter hexagonal cavity lasing at 1.6 mum.The authors thank Samsung Electronics, Suwon, Kyonggi,
Korea, for the AlGaAs wafer used in the experiment
