WRESTLING 90-91
Wrestlers this year competed in three tournaments:
Cut Bank H.S. Invitational (Cut Bank, Montana),
Ernest Manning Jr.High Invitational(Calgary),
and the Senator Riley H.S. Invitational(High River).
Although no medals were won, wrestlers wrestled
extremely well and should be extremely proud of
their accomplishments.

The choral program at HJH has been extremely successful
this year. All four choirs participated in the Kiwanis
Music Festival in March and did very well. Grade seven
received two marks of good, and grade eight received
three excellents. Two marks of excellent were acheived
by grade nine. Select choir attained excellent and superior
ratings. ”1 stood in The Maytime Meadow”, by Brent
Pierce, was commissioned for the Hamilton Junior High
choir.

This is the first year at Hamilton that there has
been a cooking club. The Cooking Club serves a
lunch to the staff every staff meeting Friday.
Meals have consisted of Chinese food, turkey at
Christmas and at Easter a ham. The members shown

THE HAMILTON 200
FUND RAISER
The students and staff of Hamilton
Junior High School say Thank You
to parents, relatives, friends and
neighbors for the fantastic success
of our fund raiser Hamilton 200
project.
The school wide Hamilton 200 took
place in October when students
canvassed for pledges for their efforts
which involved brains, brawn
and community service.
The overwhelming participation by
the majority of the students resulted
in pledge collections that raised the
fundraiser thermometer red line up,
up and over the anticipated total.
The Funds will be used to support
the many programs offered to the
students at Hamilton.

business and merchant sponsorship
made a highly successful fundraiser.

Many students at HJH
participate in extreme
sports. You may ask,
“what is an extreme sport?” An
extreme sport is one that involves
more risk or injury than average
sports. It is an adrenaline pumping
activity. One of the more popular
extreme sports at HJH is Skate
Boarding. There are others such
as snow boarding, mountain
biking, wake boarding, and
BMX’ing. Josh Gabrial is an
extreme skate boarder. He skates
at the new Lethbridge Skate Park
on the north side of town. He also
likes the area downtown around
the Centre Place Mall. He looks
for steps, small walls, ledges and
hand railings to challenge his
abilities. Most skaters spend as
much time as they can practicing their sport... some up to 3 hours a
day. At the first of the year Adam Lastiwka and some fellow skaters
when to the School Board Office with a proposal for the HJH
Skateboarders. They wanted a place to do what they do! They skate at
lunch hours but had been kicked off every place they had tried to skate
that was near the school. They proposed that theHJH skaters be
allowed to use the area that leads up to the school board office parking
lot just south of the school. They knew it was an acces road to the
board office parking lot and they didn’t want to bother the board office
employees. So they put together a list of rules and requests to make
the area safe for skateboarding while not bothering people who needed
acces to the building. The superidentent, Mr. M. Clewes accepted their
proposal and now the HJH skaters have a place to practice their sport
near the school.

Every school must raise money
these days but how many students
have the opportunity to win a vehicle
by helping out? Paige Atkinson (grade
9) won herself a GMC Jimmy for her
efforts in the bi-annual HJH fund raiser.
Bridge City Chrysler donated the used
sport utility vehicle to Hamilton for the
event. Students participating in the
fund raiser found sponsors before
they took an exam. Students then
collected a net amount from their
sponsors or an amount per question
they correctly answered on the
exam.This was a more creative and
fun way of raising money than selling
chocolates or candles.
HJH had some great sponsors
so we had some great prizes.The top
fundraiser was allowed to pick for first
prize and every consecutive finisher
picked next.
Among the prizes was a
round-trip for four to Edmonton
courtesy of Integra Air. Coca-Cola,
meanwhile, donated money to the
school to help pay for basketball
uniforms and glass backboards.
Cathy Frache (grade 7), was
the top fund raiser with a total of 20 bills out to anyone they pick.

Author David Riley, based at the Centre for Plasma Physics at Queen's University Belfast, covers a broad range of topics with an emphasis on experimental techniques. The text begins with an introduction to the basic physics of warm dense matter and its important features, then moves on to discuss the principal techniques for creating warm dense matter and approaches to diagnosing it. Topics covered include the generation of warm dense matter via laser driven shocks and X-ray sources, explosives, gas guns and ion beams, as well as X-ray free electron lasers. Principal optical and X-ray diagnostics are also discussed. The book concludes with an overview of the large-scale facilities that are most commonly used for warm dense matter research and the technologies they employ.<br/

Simulation modelling: Educational development roles for learning technologists
No full textSimulation modelling was in the mainstream of CAL development in the 1980s when the late David Squires introduced this author to the Dynamic Modelling System. Since those early days, it seems that simulation modelling has drifted into a learning technology backwater to become a member of Laurillard's underutilized, ‘adaptive and productive’ media. Referring to her Conversational Framework, Laurillard constructs a pedagogic case for modelling as a productive student activity but provides few references to current practice and available resources. This paper seeks to complement her account by highlighting the pioneering initiatives of the Computers in the Curriculum Project and more recent developments in systems modelling within geographic and business education. The latter include improvements to system dynamics modelling programs such as STELLA®, the publication of introductory textbooks, and the emergence of online resources. The paper indicates several ways in which modelling activities may be approached and identifies some educational development roles for learning technologists. The paper concludes by advocating simulation modelling as an exemplary use of learning technologies ‐ one that realizes their creative‐transformative potential
From Bradford Moor to Silver Dale. The life, work, and legacy of W. Riley, 1866-1961
No full textThis thesis presents the first full account of the life and achievements of Bradford-born W. Riley (1866-1961), once internationally known as a popular and prolific Yorkshire author.
Before becoming a famous writer, he was Managing Director of the successful Bradford Optical Lantern Company, Riley Brothers and was also, for 75 years, a Methodist local preacher and an important layman within northern Methodism. He wrote 39 books, published many stories and articles, and was a busy lecturer. Riley located most of his 30 novels in the Yorkshire Dales and has left a legacy of vivid portraits of people and places in the dales that he knew and loved.
This biography of Riley draws upon material never seen hitherto, expanding upon the author's diffident autobiography.
The complete bibliography of his extensive writings includes much new and long-lost material.
In presenting Riley to a new generation, this account places him in context with his contemporaries.
Riley proclaimed his Christianity sympathetically and attractively to his receptive public in much of his output. This thesis includes an insight into the spiritual life, outlook and thinking of a popular and much-respected committed and active Methodist local preacher.
Riley's life story is the account of a remarkably successful, self-motivated Victorian. He was a household name in his time, both in Yorkshire and internationally. The research for this thesis has uncovered important material relating to Riley, which will be held in the W. Riley Archive, at the Special Collections Section of the University of Bradford J.P. Priestley Library

a positive manner.This year the students at Hamilton walked out on Thursday October 19,1989,to protest the departure of a favorite teacher,Mr.Myndio.The students went to the board office and protested for about an hour then Mr.D.Lacey took 20 students inside to debate the issue at hand.The students made their point very clear and the protest was very well organized.Among the organizers were Erik Mason,Ryan Parker,Mike Andrews,and Jeremy Linn.

Spatiotemporal Assessment of GHG Emissions and Nutrient Sequestration Linked to Agronutrient Runoff in Global Wetlands
No full textWetlands play a key role in regulating global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions but anthropogenic impacts on nutrients may severely alter this balance. Recent assessments indicate that almost 22% of the global wetland area may be affected by agricultural runoff. In this work, we developed and applied a dynamic mechanistic reaction network model of soil organic matter linking the carbon (C), nitrogen (N), and sulfur (S) cycles at 0.5° × 0.5° spatial resolution across the globe. The model was used to estimate GHG emissions and nutrient sequestration rates in wetlands, driven by environmental stressors including N, P, and S fertilization. Wetland annual GHG emissions are estimated to be 136 ± 12.5 Tg C-CH4, 589 ± 45.8 Tg C-CO2, and 0.3 ± 0.04 Tg N-N2O; in contrast, C, N, and S annual sequestration rates are estimated to be 576 ± 88.1 Tg C, 20 ± 4.4 Tg N, and 7.4 ± 0.8 Tg S, between 2000 and 2017. N fertilization inputs were responsible for 13% N2O emissions in wetlands in the Northern Hemisphere, while tropical wetlands were major reservoirs for C, N, and S. Temperature, net primary productivity, and methanogenic microorganisms exert the major control on GHG emissions. Wetland CH4 and CO2 emissions were found to have a hysteretic relationship with seasonal soil temperature, but not N2O. A global-scale assessment is pivotal for best nutrient management practices, reducing nutrient losses, and controlling gas emissions
