Physicochemical characteristics of Bt (Seeni-1) Vs. local hamid cultivar cotton seed oils
n investigation on physicochemical characteristics of Bt (Seeni-1) vs local Hamid cultivar (cv) cottonseed oils (CSO) was conducted. Protein in Seeni-1 seed was relatively higher than Hamid cv seed. Oil content, ash and fibre of Hamid cv were relatively higher. Ash and oil content in black (chemical delinting) and white (mechanical delinting) seed were relatively higher in Hamid cv. There were no differences between the specific gravity (sp.gr.), refractive index (R.I.) and moisture content of both oils. Free fatty acids (FFA) and iodine value (IV) in Seeni-1 were relatively higher. Saturated fatty acids (SFAs) in Hamid cv oil proved to be more than Seeni-1 oil [automatically the USFA should be higher in Seeni-1]. Phosphorus content in Seeni-1 oil was lower than that of Hamid cv, whereas there was no significant difference in the peroxide value (PV)
On integral input-to-state stability for a feedback interconnection of parameterised discrete-time systems
This paper addresses integral input-to-state stability (iISS) for a feedback interconnection of parameterised discrete-time systems involving two subsystems. Particularly, we give a construction for a smooth iISS Lyapunov function for the whole system from the sum of nonlinearly weighted Lyapunov functions of individual subsystems. Motivations for such a construction are given. We consider two main cases. The first one investigates iISS for the whole system when both subsystems are iISS. The second one gives iISS for the interconnected system when one of subsystems is allowed to be input-to-state stable. The approach is also valid for both discrete-time cascades and a feedback interconnection of iISS and static systems. Examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the results
Reliability updating of experienced Hydraulic Structures by account of inspections: Case study: Poiree weir Roermond
The Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Environment manages approximately five hundred hydraulic structures and is responsible for the remaining life of these experienced structures. In this report, we developed a reliability analysis for the case study poiree weir Roermond. The inspections carried out by IV-Infra on the poiree weir Roermond concludes a rise to high risk e.g. a high probability of occurrence and major consequential loss primarily related to the observed erosion damage at the embedded poiree trestles located upstream river. The remaining life of hydraulic structures is in general the expected lifespan, on the condition that the structure does not fail in the expected lifespan also known as ‘reference period’. The remaining life can be determined as one can predict the deterioration and be able to predict in what condition the poiree weir will be. When the service life time is assumed a random variable, the strength condition can be modeled as a stochastic process, and thus the remaining life too. There is doubt concerning the structural safety because of this deterioration, a reliability assessment of experienced hydraulic structures must be therefore reviewed for use during the remaining life instead of the general reference period and are therefore not to be considered equal.The lognormal distribution with skewness k<1 is an appropriate method to model the strength deterioration behavior. The future condition can’t be exactly determined because of the introduction of the deterioration model uncertainty. Nevertheless, the effect of the inspection data on the reliability level can be illustrated by the likelihood of the strength at the moment of inspection and can be estimated better with a Bayesian afterwards probability. The increase of the actual number of inspections further reduces the uncertainty of the strength deterioration.The Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure introduced the "experienced reliability level". The experienced reliability level is the minimum level of structural safety for experienced structures in main waterways. For the reference period and remaining life of 30 years, the following reliability index β = 3.3 is the lower limit for the structural safety for existing structures. The survival probabilities can then be given as reliability index, and compared with the minimum reliability level of experienced structures. To maintain the reliability level at the target level, the remaining life of the poiree weir is the period within which the minimum reliability level of experienced structures should not be less. The remaining life for without inspections and n=9 inspections is calibrated to 7 years, the increase of the number observations n=100 increases the remaining service life to 11 years. One can say that inspection increases the remaining life. A Multi-Language Comparison of Influences on Author Verification using Character N-Grams
We create a new multi-language corpus for author verification based on Wikipedia talkpages, and evaluate the influence that differences in topic and time have on character n-gram author profiles. The vanishing author in computer-generated works: a critical analysis of recent Australian case law
Abstract
The use of software is ubiquitous in the creation of many copyright works, yet the requirement in copyright law that every work have a human author who engages in independent intellectual effort means that its use may prevent copyright subsistence. Several recent Australian cases have refocused attention on authorship as an essential criterion of copyright subsistence, and these cases suggest that much computer-produced output may be authorless and thus lack copyright protection. This article, the first in a two-part series, analyses how each case deals with the question of authorship of computer-produced works and why the use of software diminishes copyright protection for a significant number of computer-generated works. The article critiques the application of conventional notions of human authorship developed in the pre-computer age to modern productions and suggests alternative approaches to authorship that satisfy both the major objectives of copyright policy and the need to adapt to the computer age. The article argues that, without a broader judicial approach to authorship of computer-generated works, Parliament must remedy the lacuna in protection for these ‘authorless’ works. Possible solutions for reform are suggested. In a forthcoming article, the author comprehensively examines those reform proposals
Dose-Dependent Clinical, Radiographic, and Histopathologic Changes of 17β-Estradiol Levels Within the Temporomandibular Joint: An Experimental Study in Ovariectomized Dogs
Purpose: The aim of this study was to test the hypothesis that the dose of estrogen replacement therapy may have an influence on the clinical, radiographic, and histopathologic changes within the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). Materials and Methods: A prospective experimental study was conducted in 12 mature ovariectomized dogs. Dogs were randomly allocated into 1 of 4 groups (OVX-E0, dogs that did not receive any estrogen replacement therapy; OVX-E0.5, dogs that received 0.15 mg/kg of estradiol; OVX-E1, dogs that received 0.3 mg/kg of estradiol; and OVX-E2, dogs that received 0.6 mg/kg of estradiol); dogs were evaluated clinically for 12 weeks; and contact radiographic and histopathologic examinations of the TMJ were performed just after euthanasia. Results: Radiographic examination of the TMJ in the OVX-E0 group showed narrowing of the joint space with marginal osteophyte formation along the mandibular condyle. The OVX-E0.5 group showed mild widening of the joint space with no remarkable changes within the mandibular fossa or condyle. The OVX-E1 group was free of radiographic changes within the TMJ. High doses of estrogen in the OVX-E2 group showed marked flattening of the mandibular condyle and fossa with sclerosis of the subchondral bone. Histopathologic sections in the OVX-E0 group showed thin compact bone with scanty, less organized lacunae. The OVX-E0.5 group showed compact bone of medium thickness with large osteons and disorganized lacunae. The OVX-E1 group showed thick compact bone with reduced intertubercular spaces and organized lacunae. The OVX-E2 group showed thin bone with reduced trabecular and increased intertrabecular thickness. The collagen content did not change significantly among the 4 groups, whereas its quality changed significantly (P <.05). Conclusions: Estrogen dosage is potentially a key regulator of bone metabolism within the TMJ. Estrogen replacement therapy exhibited an inverted U–shaped beneficial effect. Estrogen depletion as well as high doses of estrogen resulted in clinical, radiographic, and histopathologic changes within the TMJ. Estrogen replacement therapy should be prescribed at the optimum dose when indicated as hormonal replacement therapy
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. The type species of the monotypic oribatid mite genus Aegyptogalumna Al-Assiuty, Abdel-Hamid, Seif et El-Deeb, 1985 (Galumnidae) is redescribed on the basis of specimens from Spain. We discuss the taxonomic status of the genus and propose to consider it a subgenus of Leptogalumna Balogh, 1960: Leptogalumna (Aegyptogalumna) stat. nov. Accordingly, the type species is recombined to Leptogalumna (Aegyptogalumna) mastigophora (Al-Assiuty, Abdel-Hamid, Seif et El-Deeb, 1985) comb. n
