SESAM 2023 Workshop on "Open Access data sharing - How to make simulation-based training data Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable (FAIR)?"
Introduction & Aims Open Access publishing is getting more and moreattention. Research is made available to the public and developing countries,giving more exposure. The underlying data, which can be qualitative (i.e.interview data) or quantitative (test scores, time to perform a task, simulatorparameters) are however often not shared. Publishing these data improvesreproducibility, accelerates innovation and allows for sharing of unique datanot available to everyone. We believe this is the next step forward inmaturation of the field of simulation applied to medicine and nursing. Thereare however perceived concerns regarding privacy and access under the EU generaldata protection regulation (GDPR). At the same time anonymization techniquesallow for data sharing and reuse under the GDPR. So how to publish your simulation-based studiesand practices according to the so called FAIR principles, making it Findable,Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable? The aim of this workshop is to show bestpractices for publishing simulation-based training data. We use a graduatesurgical skills curriculum study previously published as use case. Introduction of a best-practice case with following small group discussion: applying one of the FAIR principles per group on simulation-based data (25 min) 4. Small group discussion: Start planning data sharing for your own practice and studies (15 min) 6. Plenary closure and wrap up: Where can you find support on data sharing? Proficient before practice:Graduate simulation-based surgical skills training increases confidence in technical skills
IntroductionSurgical graduate training to achieve practice-ready students is needed, yet is often lacking. This study evaluates a proficiency-based, simulation-based course for basic surgical skills at graduate level. This study aims to show the effect of a preclinical curriculum to teach 21st century Surgical Skills (Halfwerk et al., 2020), and evaluate this curriculum with a pre-post-course questionnaire on confidence.MethodsGraduate Technical Medicine students from academic year 2020-2021 entered a mandatory 10-week, 3 European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) graduate surgical skills course. Learning outcomes are measured at the level of knowledge and skills and are evaluated with a pre-post-course questionnaire on confidence based on the Task Confidence Measure (Bevilacqua et al., 2020). The New General Self-Efficacy Scale (NGSE) is used as control, where no improvements in self-efficacy are expected. A Wilcoxon signed-rank test with Holm-Bonferroni correction is used to assess differences between time points.Results & DiscussionIn total 107 students enrolled the surgical skills course. 84 students completed the pre-course survey (79%), and 61 students (57%) completed the post-course survey. The control questionnaire (NGSE) on self-efficacy did now show higher self-efficacy scores in 7 questions (p > 0.05). However, students stated after the course more often that “compared to other people, they can do most tasks very well” (p < 0.01).Students felt more confident in all technical surgical skills after the surgical skills course (p < 0.001), as well as obtaining informed consent (p < 0.001), see attached Figure. Confidence in interpreting medical imaging did not improve with the course (p > 0.05).Often limited time is scheduled for preclinical surgical skills training, which results in limited skills development and only a small increase in confidence. This study shows that it is feasible to have a major increase in confidence in technical surgical skills with a graduate curriculum. We recommend that proficiency-based training using simulation should be standard in surgical curricula before students are allowed to practice on patients

Téma této práce zní Podoby židovství v dílech F.R. Krause, Františka Kafky, Hany Bělohradské a J.R. Picka. Soustředila jsem se na méně známé české autory, kteří se ve své tvorbě věnovali tématu židovství. Jedná se o texty související s 2. světovou válkou. V úvodu je nastíněn stručný přehled o působení Židů na našem území, následuje představení zvolené čtveřice autorů. Hlavním cílem bylo přiblížit a rozebrat vybraná díla a v závěru shrnout jejich odlišné a podobné znaky. Současně byly tyto texty zařazeny do kontextu české prózy s tematikou okupace.Katedra českého jazyka a literaturyObhájenoThe theme of this bachelor work is called Forms of judaism in writings of F.R. Kraus, František Kafka, Hana Bělohradská and J.R. Pick. In this thesis the author tried to concentrate on a few less-known Czech writers, who devoted their writing to the fate of Jews during the Second World War. In the first part of this work the author outlined the influence of the Jewish etnic group on the population of our country, with the aim to gain orientation in the historical backgound of that time. Next the author analysed the texts of selected books with the Jewish theme from different points of view and in the end of her work compared the books she used. In the closing of this work there is a contextual classification of the mentioned books into the category of works with the topic of occupation, from the end of the Second World War until today

Innovations in cardio-thoracic surgery:Predicting and optimising outcome with state of the heart technology
Cardio-thoracic surgery envelops surgery of the heart, lungs, mediastinum, large intrathoracic vessels, diaphragm and the thoracic wall. Many operative techniques introduced from 1950 to 1980 are still used today. However, a perceived drawback is its invasiveness and procedural complications. As a result, the number of surgeries is dropping and innovations are mainly focused and funded for less invasive approaches like interventional cardiology. To further improve clinical outcomes of cardiac surgery, several themes can be defined to make cardiac surgery sustainable for the future. This thesis focuses on minimally invasive cardiac surgery, technological innovations and multidisciplinary approaches to improve surgical outcome for patients. The hypothesis is that cardiac surgery remains a first time right strategy for patients when these themes are adopted in clinical practice.Part I: The first part of this thesis focuses on minimally invasive cardiac surgery. By reducing the impact of the heart-lung machine outcomes for large groups of patients will improve. Other patient groups can profit from off-pump surgery even when inoperable for cardiac surgery with a heart-lung machine.Part II: Besides minimal invasive surgery, technological innovations in cardio-thoracic surgery such as improved biomaterials and devices are necessary to further improve surgical outcome. Part III: A multidisciplinary approach with teamwork and shared decision making from patients, (technical) medical specialists, nurses, physiotherapists and other professionals will optimise treatments in cardio-thoracic surgery. Good professional behaviour starts with proper training in a simulated environment.The three themes stated in this thesis should enable combination of good outcomes and reduce drawbacks. Several aspects that improve cardiac surgery were covered in this thesis. However this thesis was not designed in a way to prove that the overall outcome is better than alternative choices or leads to an increase in surgical volume
