Class II malocclusion is one of the most common orthodontic issues, often treated with the Herbst appliance. This report presents a clinical comparison between the traditional Herbst appliance and the Herbst appliance fixed on miniscrews (TAD - Temporary Anchorage Devices). The cases include a 12-year-old female patient treated with the traditional Herbst appliance and a 15-year-old male patient treated with the Herbst appliance fixed on miniscrews. The results showed that both techniques are effective in correcting Class II malocclusion, with significant improvement in overjet, facial profile, and dento-skeletal relationships. However, the Herbst appliance on miniscrews offered greater stability, minimal relapse, and improved hygienic management, while reducing initial discomfort. In conclusion, the Herbst appliance on miniscrews presents an advanced option for cases requiring more complex skeletal anchorage.

Volgens Herbst
( 1989) ondervind Vrystaatse Sotho-skoolbeginners veral probleme
met voorgrond/agtergrondwaarneming, vormkonstantheid, posisie in
die ruimte, ruimtelike verhoudings, numeriese en kleurkonsepte,
rigtingsin, en toon ook gebrekkige fynmotoriese vaardighede,
asook emosionele onrypheid vir die skoolsi tuasie. Di t is dus
is.
Hierdie probleem is grootliks

How Theory-Building Research on Instruction can Support Instructional Improvement: Toward a Modeling Perspective in Secondary Geometry
How can basic research on mathematics instruction contribute to instructional
improvement? In our research on the practical rationality of geometry teaching we describe
existing instruction and examine how existing instruction responds to perturbations. In this
talk, I consider the proposal that geometry instruction could be improved by infusing it with
activities where students use representations of figures to model their experiences with
shape and space and I show how our basic research on high school geometry instruction
informs the implementing and monitoring of such modeling perspective. I argue that for
mathematics education research on instruction to contribute to improvements that teachers
can use in their daily work our theories of teaching need to be mathematics-specific.The ideas expressed in this paper have been developed with the support of the National Science Foundation through grants REC-0133619, ESI-0353285, and DRL- 0918425 (P. Palladium‐Catalyzed Direct C2‐Arylation of an N‐Heterocyclic Carbene: An Atom‐Economic Route to Mesoionic Carbene Ligands
Ghadwal R, Reichmann SO, Herbst-Irmer R. Palladium-Catalyzed Direct C2-Arylation of an N-Heterocyclic Carbene: An Atom-Economic Route to Mesoionic Carbene Ligands. Chemistry - A European Journal. 2015;21(11):4247-4251.Blocking the C2 position of an imidazole‐derived classical N‐heterocyclic carbene (NHC) with an aryl group is an essential strategy to establish a route to mesoionic carbenes (MICs), which coordinate to the metal via the C4 (or C5) carbon atom. An efficient catalytic route to MIC precursors by direct arylation of an NHC is reported. Treatment of 1,3‐bis(2,6‐diisopropylphenyl)imidazol‐2‐ylidene (IPr) with an aryl iodide (RC6H4I) in the presence of 0.5 mol % of [Pd2(dba)3] (dba=dibenzylideneacetone) precatalyst affords the C2‐arylated imidazolium salts {IPr(C6H4R)}I (R=H, 4‐Me, 2‐Me, 4‐OMe, 4‐COOMe) in excellent (up to 92 %) yields. Treatment of {IPr(C6H5)}I with CuI and KN(SiMe3)2 exclusively affords the MIC–copper complex [(IPrPh)CuI]
Educational content in the performing arts : tradition and Christianity in Kenya
Includes bibliographical references (p.235-263).The performing arts (a combination of music, dance and dramatisation) in the church in Kenya have not received much scholarly attention. These performing arts as adopted by Christian dance groups in Kenya have not been fully accepted into Christian circles because of the indigenous and popular music influences that govern them. This study therefore sets out to determine the educational role that the performing arts in the church in Nairobi play as demonstrated by a Nairobi Christian dance group, the Maximum Miracle Melodies
Digital Titanium-Herbst : effects on TMJ in a case of Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis
The use of CAD-CAM (Computer-Aided Design, Computer-Aided Manufacturing) is growing exponentially in dentistry, since its introduction in the field of prosthetics in the 80s. It also finds application in the orthodontic field, it can be produced with this technology palatal expanders, Michigan plates, guide masks for presurgical orthodontics.
This work intends to demonstrate the application of a Herbst appliance produced with CAD-CAM titanium alloy (DTi Herbst) in a case of Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA).
The JIA patient, aged 14, is investigated by Cone Beam CT (CBCT) and sections obtained are studied in the 3 planes of space. The left TMJ has a marked erosion of a round shape in the central portion of the head of the condyle. And there is slight lateral deviation during opening movement with Class II malocclusion and deep bite. Herbst equipment has applied to bring the jaw forward.
We take polyvinyl siloxane dental impressions and develop models in plaster. The models are scanned with scanners and structured light so you get the digital models. Using CAD software is designed the structure of the apparatus, which is then produced with the use of a numerically controlled milling machine. The Herbst is made and cemented tried in the mouth with a cement-based resin. After removal of the equipment, 1 year later, you run a new CBCT scan to verify the results obtained.
The Herbst hinge is a fixed functional appliance developed by Dr. Emil Herbst in 1906. The skeletal effects arising from the application of this apparatus is mostly during the peak of growth: in particular at the level of the jaw one can obtain a growth beyond the 3mm for the dislocation of the condyle in the glenoid fossa and stimulation of new bone apposition especially in the portion top and back of the condyle.
The analysis shows that the new CT at the level of the condyle there was bone remodeling and neoformation that has bridged the gap between right and left condyle erosion caused this previously.
The CAD / CAM applied to the materials from the aerospace industry such as titanium grade 5 make the design and implementation of the DTi Herbst simpler than traditional Herbst. The application in patients with JIA has so far shown promising results but requires a study with a larger number of patients
