Quantifying dielectrophoretic collections of sub-micron particles on microelectrodes
This paper presents a technique for measuring and quantifying the elelectrohporetic collection of sub-micron particles on planar microelectrode arrays. Fluorescence microscopy and video recording is used to measure the number of particles collecting on an electrode as a function of time for various experimental parameters, such as applied electrode voltage and frequency. Video images are processed using analytical methods that take advantage of the geometrical properties of the electrode array to extract quantitative information which is used to characterize the dielectric properties of particles. The time-dependent collection profiles can be chracterized by three parameters: the initial dielectrophoretic collection rate, the initial to pseudo-steady-state transition and the rise time. This method can be used asa general technique to characterize the dielectrophoretic properties of populations of sub-micron-scale particles
Postcard from S. W. Morgan, Morgan and Woolfolk, Birmingham, Alabama, to Joseph H. Woodward, Wheeling, Alabama, October 13, 1884
A document from an extensive collection spanning four generations of the Woodward family that operated merchant pig iron companies in West Virginia and Alabama. The collection begins with Stimpson Harvey Woodward (S. H. Woodward), a native of Massachusetts, who moved from Pittsburgh to Wheeling, West Virginia in 1852. He had interests in an iron company as early as 1852 in West Virginia and began Alabama operations in 1869. The family business continued in Alabama until the death of S. H. Woodward's great-grandson in 1965
“One, who became the Bridge”. Influence of Lewis H. Morgan on Russian anthropology
This article looks on how Lewis H. Morgan’s theory influenced the development of Russian anthropological thought. Morgan (indirectly, yet significantly) was one of the reasons for creation of socially active school of anthropology in the U.S.S.R. Author outlines anthropological historicism in Russian communist period. She shows how political ideologies molded research categories in the U.S.S.R
