Is the Phillips Curve a Curve? Some Evidence and Implications for Australia
No full textThe Phillips curve has generally been estimated in a linear framework. This paper investigates the possibility that the Phillips curve is indeed a curve, and shows that a convex short-run Phillips curve may be a more accurate representation of reality than the traditionally used linear specification. The paper also discusses the policy implications of convexity in the Phillips curve. These include the need for policy to be forward-looking and to act pre-emptively. Convexity provides a strong rationale for stabilisation policy, and it reinforces the need for policy-makers to proceed cautiously. It also implies that deep recessions may have only a marginally greater disinflationary impact than shallower ones, unless they induce large credibility bonuses.

The letter states that the checks represent "the contributions of about twenty-five people made at a dinner held here recently to consider the phases of the status of citizens of Japanese ancestry and is to be applied specifically to helping prosecute the case of Miss Mitsuye Endo. Mr. F. C. Kellogg of the Fowler High School faculty was the author of the idea and deserves the credit for raising the enclosed contribution."The ACLU-Northern California case file records contain legal documents and correspondence pertaining to the case Ex parte Mitsuye Endo (1944), in which the United States Supreme court unanimously ruled that the federal government could not indefinitely detain United States citizens who were loyal to the government. Files include documents related to the Gordon Hirabayashi Supreme Court case Hirabayashi v. United States

Phillips was a Montgomery County public school teacher and is the author of children's books. In 1986 she made a documentary about her teaching experiences. The scrapbooks include statements of her philosophy on teaching, vacation photographs, and correspondence. Also included are her two books, The Bald Eagle's Flying Shadow: A Fourth of July Celebration and The First Snowflake of Winter

No full textRattus montanus Phillips, 1932. Ceylon J. Sci., Sec. B, 16:323. TYPE LOCALITY: Sri Lanka (Ceylon), West Haputale, Ohiya, 6000 ft. DISTRIBUTION: Known only from the type locality, Horton Plains at 7000 ft, and Nuwara Eliya at 6000 ft in primary montane forests of Central and Uva Provinces of Sri Lanka (Phillips, 1980). COMMENTS: A montane endemic on Sri Lanka and morphologically so unlike most other species of Rattus it may not belong in same genus, despite assertion of one author that it is nothing more than a large form of R. rattus (see Musser, 1986:22). Like R. annandalei, R. hoogerwerfi, R. korinchi, R. macleari, R. nativitatis, and members of the R. xanthurus group, the Ceylon endemic seems isolated within present morphological boundaries of Rattus (Musser, 1986).Published as part of Guy G. Contracting models of the Phillips curve - empirical estimates for Middle-income countries
No full textThis paper provides empirical estimates of contracting models of the Phillips curve for four middle-income developing economies-Chile, the Republic of Korea, the Philippines, and Turkey. Following an analytical review, models with both one lead and one lag, and two lags and three leads, are then estimated using Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) techniques. The results indicate that for both Chile and Turkey past and future inflation are of about the same magnitude in affecting current inflation. In Korea past inflation has a larger impact on inflation, whereas in the Philippines it is future inflation that plays a larger role.
