Congruence between Hindu Philosophy and Writings of Otto Rank

    No full text
Parallels between some of Rank's basic assumptions and those of ancient Indian thought are presented; both describe life as inherently painful, and both detail four very similar stages of development whereby a person may transcend a life of futility. Rank was well versed in philosophy, had ideas that parallel Hindu concepts, and chose to be cremated as is the Hindu tradition rather than be buried according to the prevailing custom. </jats:p

Parameters of sustainability: a systematic literature review and bibliometric analysis with respect to micro enterprises

    No full text
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to perform a thorough analysis of the literature on the parameters of sustainability of the micro-enterprises. It seeks to provide an organizing framework to identify research gaps and future directions. Using data from Web of Science and Scopus, the study offers insights into key trends, authorship and thematic shifts, informing future research design and positioning. Design/methodology/approach – Researchers used a systematic review methodology, gathering data from Web of Science and Scopus databases. R Studio software facilitated bibliometric analysis. This study scrutinized research papers to construct an organizing framework and identify thematic trends in sustainability parameters for micro-enterprises. Findings – The review presents a comprehensive overview of sustainability parameters in micro-enterprises, revealing significant research trends, key authors, countries and journals. It identifies gaps and suggests future research directions, aiding in the design and positioning of forthcoming studies in this domain. Research limitations/implications – Limitations may include the scope of databases accessed and potential biases in the selected literature. Future studies could explore additional databases or incorporate qualitative analyses for deeper insights into sustainability parameters in micro-enterprises. Practical implications – This study offers practical insights for policymakers, practitioners and researchers by highlighting key sustainability parameters in micro-enterprises. It informs decision-making processes concerning resource allocation, policy formulation and support mechanisms for sustainable development. Social implications – Understanding sustainability parameters in micro-enterprises has significant social implications, particularly for vulnerable groups like craftsmen, women and young entrepreneurs. By addressing these parameters, interventions can enhance livelihoods and contribute to broader socio-economic development. Originality/value – By providing a thorough analysis of sustainability factors in micro-enterprises and applying bibliometric analysis to shed light on research trends, this paper adds to the body of literature. Its organized framework identifies gaps and guides future research, offering value to scholars, policymakers and practitioners invested in sustainable development at the grassroots level

Synthesis and characterization of Cu2O nanoparticles

    No full text
Cuprous oxide (Cu2O) nanoparticles are synthesized by aqueous precipitation method for the production of low-cost conductive ink, which is suitable for a printed, electronic application. The major drawback of copper ink, such as rapid oxidation overcomes by the formation of Cu2O ink. Structural characterizations reveal that spherical, nano-sized, polycrystalline cubic structure of Cu2O nanoparticles synthesized in the present work. The studies on transmission electron microscopies show that the size of these nanoparticles is approximately 7.5 ± 1.8 nm. The Cu2O nanoparticles show an absorption band at 650 nm with a bandgap of 2 eV. Results of sheet resistance and contact angle of Cu2O nanoparticles make it suitable for the development of low-cost conductive writing ink for a printed, electronic application

A population-based eye survey of older adults in a rural district of Rajasthan: II. Outcomes of cataract surgery.

PURPOSE: To assess the outcomes of cataract surgery in rural northwest India. DESIGN: Population-based, cross-sectional study. PARTICIPANTS: A total of 549 cataract-operated persons (723 operated eyes). METHODS: Cluster sampling was used in randomly selecting a cross-sectional sample of persons 50 years of age or older for visual acuity measurement, refraction, and slit-lamp and direct ophthalmoscope examination early in 1999. Those operated on for cataract were queried as to the date and place of surgery. The principal cause of reduced vision was identified for all examined eyes with presenting visual acuity worse than 6/18. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Presenting and best-corrected visual acuity and cause of vision loss. RESULTS: Presenting visual acuity was less than 6/60 in the better eye in 33.7% of cataract-operated persons and greater than or equal to 6/18 in both eyes in 8.2%; 31.7% were bilaterally operated on. Of cataract-operated eyes, 44.1% initially had visual acuity less than 6/60 and 31.5% greater than or equal to 6/18; with best correction, the corresponding percentages were 14.0% and 61.5%. Intracapsular cataract extraction was used in 92% of cases, and 66% had been operated on in surgery camps. Surgical complications were common and a major cause of vision impairment. In multiple logistic regression modeling, female gender and residence in a rural area were associated negatively with both presenting and best-corrected visual acuity outcomes, and surgery conducted before 1990 was associated negatively with best-corrected visual acuity. Place of surgery and subject schooling were not associated with vision outcomes. CONCLUSIONS: Cataract surgery subjects in rural areas of India that are without adequately equipped facilities and skilled surgeons, and lack of availability of intraocular lenses, are not realizing the full sight-restoring potential of modern-day surgery. Emphasis on the quality of cataract surgery outcomes must be increased to keep pace with that being given to increasing surgical volume
