Application of hydrodynamic cavitation to wastewater treatment
No full textHydrodynamic cavitation has shown considerable application promise in wastewater treatment due to its simple reactor design, convenient operation, high energy efficiency and easy scalization. In this paper, different aspects of hydrodynamic cavitation used for wastewater treatment have been reviewed. Theoretical studies, including the basic mechanism of pollutant degradation, the modeling of pressure distribution in cavitation reactor and the bubble dynamics models coupled with chemical reactions, are evaluated. Experimental setups of various design of reactors and operation parameters are compared under the desired conditions for degrading specific kinds of pollutants in wastewater. In addition to hydrodynamic cavitation, some synergetic approaches are also reviewed. The effort directions for both theoretical and experimental investigations have been provided based on this review.Peer reviewed
Molecular dynamics simulation of heat conduction in Si nano-films induced by ultrafast laser heating
No full textMolecular dynamics simulations are carried out to study the thermal and mechanical phenomena of heat conduction induced by ultrafast laser heating of nanoscale Si films. A distribution of internal heat source obeying Beer–Lambda law is applied to model the laser energy deposition in the film and to calculate the induced temperature and stress distributions. Thermal waves are observed from the local temperature temporal variations and spatial distributions. The developments of averaged static pressure and local displacement in the film show a consistent periodicity. The time evolutions of both the local pressure and net heat flux fluctuate strongly, but show similar trends between these two local physical quantities, demonstrating a close relationship between the stress and the net heat flow.Peer reviewed

Etymology Five-segmented palp is the main diagnosis feature of this new genus. “Pent-” means five, just represents the five segments of palp in this new genus. Diagnosis Characters of Rhyncholimnocharinae; palp five-segmented, P-V attached to the middle surface, rather than the distal end of P-IV; dorsalia absent; without swimming setae on legs. Habitat Same as subfamily. Distribution Oriental realm. Remarks The new genus presents the diagnostic features of both two subfamilies in Limnocharidae: a long tube of protrusible integument proves that it belongs to Rhyncholimnocharinae, meanwhile the palp with five segments indicates it is from Limnocharinae. The phylogenetic value of the palp-fused as a character has been questioned (Cook 1974; Gerecke et al. 2020).
