Improving Sensing Measurements Using Laser Self-Mixing Interference in Non-Line-of-Sight Optical Communication via Systems

Objective: Mobile robots leverage laser self-mixing interference for sensing in non-line-of-sight optical communications, allowing for a wide range of measures such as distance, velocity, and displacement, while also improving accuracy and flexibility in robotic navigation and interaction. Interference, restricted range, and sensitivity to environmental factors are challenges that affect the precision and reliability of sensing measures. Methods: This paper presents a detailed introduction to theory and various algorithms of channel estimation in wireless communication. Combining the characteristics of UV channels, a channel estimation algorithm suitable for UV optical communication systems is selected, and relevant simulations are carried out. A theoretical analysis of channel estimation SNR and a proposed angle measurement method using laser self-mixing interference are discussed. A device is designed to implement this method, utilizing self-mixing interferometric fringe counting to measure rotation displacement in mobile robots. Findings: In results, sensing measurement and modality are employed for SNR and robotic localization performance. Distance (15 dB), velocity (12 dB), and object shape (18 dB) in SNR and laser range finder (5 cm), camera (15 cm), and LiDAR (3 cm) in robotic localization performance. Conclusion: Incorporating laser self-mixing interference effects into non-line-of-sight optical communication for mobile robotics enhances sensing precision across diverse measurements, fostering robustness and adaptability in dynamic environments. Doi: 10.28991/HIJ-2024-05-04-012 Full Text: PD

Kawaguchi-Silverman conjecture on automorphisms of projective threefolds

Under the framework of dynamics on normal projective varieties by Kawamata, Nakayama and Zhang \cite{Kawamata85,Nakayama10,NZ09,NZ10,Zhang16}, Hu and the author \cite{HL21}, we may reduce Kawaguchi-Silverman conjecture for automorphisms ff on normal projective threefolds XX with either the canonical divisor KXK_X is trivial or negative Kodaira dimension to the following two case: (i) ff is a primitively automorphism of a weak Calabi-Yau threefold (ii) XX is a rationally connected threefold. And we prove Kawaguchi-Silverman conjecture is true for automorphisms of normal projective varieties XX with the irregularity q(X)dimX1q(X)\ge\dim X-1. Finally, we discuss Kawaguchi-Silverman conjecture on normal projective varieties with Picard number two.Comment: 16 pages, thanks the referee for useful comments, accepted by International Journal of Mathematics. arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:2208.0261

WonderMap:Capturing and Connecting the Edges of Cultures

In the era of globalization, the intertwining of cultures poses both opportunities and challenges. While cultural hybridization fosters intercultural exchange, it risks eroding cultural identities. This paper introduces WonderMap, initially centered on the Netherlands but with broader applications. This interactive map bridges local and international communities, empowering local voices, nurturing cross-cultural understanding, and fostering a global community. WonderMap integrates tangible maps, Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, and digital interfaces, allowing users to share narratives and foster genuine connections. Currently limited to specific cities, WonderMap envisions future upgrades, incorporating advanced technologies for precise location identification and immersive experiences. By balancing cultural diversity and global interconnectedness, WonderMap seeks to celebrate diverse cultures and promote mutual understanding in our interconnected world.</p

A History-Based Matching Approach to Identification of Framework Evolution

No full text
In practice, it is common that a framework and its client programs evolve simultaneously. Thus, developers of client programs may need to migrate their programs to the new release of the framework when the framework evolves. As framework developers can hardly always guarantee backward compatibility during the evolution of a framework, migration of its client program is often time-consuming and error-prone. To facilitate this migration, researchers have proposed two categories of approaches to identification of framework evolution: operation-based approaches and matching-based approaches. To overcome the main limitations of the two categories of approaches, we propose a novel approach named HiMa, which is based on matching each pair of consecutive revisions recorded in the evolution history of the framework and aggregating revision-level rules to obtain framework-evolution rules. We implemented our HiMa approach as an Eclipse plug-in targeting at frameworks written in Java using SVN as the version-control system. We further performed an experimental study on HiMa together with a state-of-art approach named AURA using six tasks based on three subject Java frameworks. Our experimental results demonstrate that HiMa achieves higher precision and higher recall than AURA in most circumstances and is never inferior to AURA in terms of precision and recall in any circumstances, although HiMa is computationally more costly than AURA.Computer Science, Software EngineeringEngineering, Electrical & ElectronicEICPCI-S(ISTP)

Can AI Bridge the Literacy Gap? Developing a GPT-4 Summarization Tool for Low Literacy

In the Netherlands, 2.5 million adults grapple with low literacy—a gap between integration and an increasingly information-densesociety. To address this, we have developed an innovative intervention using GPT-4, integrated within the user interface built via Streamlit, to summarize and simplify the complexity of official documents and everyday text. This paper outlines the design and anticipated functionality of our tool, which uses the summarization capabilities of GPT-4 to trans complicated language into concise, accessible content with clear action points and connect with related organizations. Six participants were invited to this study. We evaluate the tool’s impact on enhancingform the societal participation of adults lacking basic skills, proposing that such an application can empower low-literacy individuals and bridge the gap to an informed and equitable society
