Item parameter drift and online calibration
An important assumption of item response theory based computerized adaptive assessment is item parameter invariance. Sometimes, however, item parameters are not invariant across different test administrations due to factors other than sampling error; and this phenomenon is termed item parameter drift. Several methods have been developed to detect drifted items, and most of the them were designed to detect drifts in the unidimensional item response model under the paper and pencil testing framework, which may not be adequate for computerized adaptive testing.
This paper introduces an online (re)calibration design to detect item parameter drift for computerized adaptive testings in both unidimensional and multidimensional environment. Specifically, for online calibra- tion optimal design in unidimensional computerized adaptive testing model, a modified two-stage design is proposed by implementing a proportional density index algorithm. For a multidimensional computerized adaptive testing model, a four-quadrant online calibration pretest item selection design with proportional density index algorithm is proposed. Comparisons were made between different online calibration item selection strategies. Essays on antecedents and consequences of cloud computing capabilities in organizations: an empirical analysis of field data
Cloud computing is widely recognized as a potential disruptive paradigm that changes how IT is consumed and business is conducted in various industries. Managerial and academic literature has shown that cloud computing may benefit firms in various ways such as cost savings, fast project development, and business innovation. Nevertheless, there are many different interpretations and perceptions of cloud computing about how to better prepare for and use it in the information systems (IS) literature. A systematic analysis is necessary to clarify the equivocal issues around cloud computing and guide managers to better understand and utilize cloud computing in practice. This dissertation addresses several important relationships around cloud computing using theoretical models and empirical data as a representation of how the questions about cloud computing may be investigated in the IS literature and how the findings may benefit organizations in using cloud computing. Therefore, the dissertation comprises three connected chapters that address one important antecedent of cloud computing adoption – internal IT modularity within firms and two important consequences – firm performance and strategic alliance formation. It is found that in order to better prepare for cloud computing adoption, firm users can do something themselves by modularizing their internal IT systems. Firms also need to know whether and how cloud computing, after all, can benefit their firm performance or other activities such as strategic alliance formation. The findings show that cloud computing overall and its various specific cloud services may promote firm performance directly or complementarily with internal enterprise resources. Cloud computing and its specific cloud services may also exert different effects on strategic alliance formation. The trombone as portrayed in Portuguese iconography during the sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries
This article studies eleven sixteenth and seventeenth century iconographical sources depicting slide brass instruments, by both Portuguese and foreign artists active in Portugal, as well as foreign artists depicting Portuguese scenes. This study addresses questions concerning aspects of trombone technique that have not previously been considered and may have implications in the way the trombone was understood elsewhere in Europe. It focuses on aspects of technique depicted that may be representative of the trombone’s contemporary design and performance and therefore the manner in which the instrument was held and indeed played. Finally, this article suggests a transitional technical period when the way of holding the single-slide trumpet may have been used to play the trombone.Publisher PD
