An anti-occlusion vision-based method for structural motion estimation
Structural displacement is an important metric in structural health monitoring (SHM). Computer vision-based methods have been widely used for structural displacement recognition in laboratory settings. However, the movement of natural objects such as pedestrians, vehicles, and other unrelated objects, may obstruct the selected structural targets for tracking, therefore reducing the accuracy of estimated displacements. To address this challenge, this paper proposes an anti- occlusion computer vision-based method to estimate structural displacements with subpixellevel accuracy. The proposed method can be divided into three steps. First, the correlation filter is used to continuously track the selected target despite occlusion. Next, the Gaussian mixture model (GMM)-based target modeling method is proposed to identify the occluded segments in each frame. Finally, the selected target is divided into multiple patches, and the subpixel-level displacements of unobstructed patches are estimated by the subpixel patch matching algorithm. The advantages of the developed method over traditional approaches are demonstrated in simulated cases and a shaking table test of a five-story stone curtain wall structure. Additionally, the developed method is applied in a bridge construction practice.

Three body systems are common in nature, and the stability criterion requires it to be in hi-erarchical configuration. In this configuration, the third body is a massive black hole and is orbited by a stellar-mass black hole binary on a much wider orbit, allowing us to treat the inner and outer as two separate elliptical orbits, characterised by the interaction terms, just like two coupled harmonic oscillators. The interaction terms are usually treated as perturbation. In this work, we used the ADM Hamiltonian formula and derived the interaction term up to 1PN, following the work by previous people. We showed that there are two additional terms that are previously ignored, and that these addition terms allow us to approximate the numerical results better. In addition, we also studied the complicated dynamical evolution of triple system inADM Hamiltonian with leading order (2.5PN) dissipative effect. M.Phil. Salicylic acid suppresses 1O2-mediated susceptibility to <i>Alternaria alternata </i>in <i>Arabidopsis</i>
Necrotrophic Alternaria alternata induces EXECUTER 1(EX1)/2-dependent singlet oxygen (1O2) bursts, leading to plant cell death, with jasmonic acid (JA) acting as a key signal transducer downstream of EX1/2-mediated signaling. Salicylic acid (SA), a crucial defense hormone, is known to respond to pathogen invasion and activate defense gene expression. Previous studies emphasize the importance of SA in A. alternata-induced necrosis in the light of the increased susceptibility of SA-deficient transgenic Arabidopsis NahG to A. alternata. In this study, we investigated the role of SA in A. alternata-triggered 1O2 signaling in Arabidopsis. We found that EX1/2 deficiency did not alter SA levels in Arabidopsis infected with A. alternata, indicating that SA signaling regulates A. alternata-induced pathogenesis through an EX1/2-independent pathway. Exogenous SA application and increased endogenous SA in the ssi2-2 mutant enhanced resistance but inhibited JA production. Conversely, SA signaling deficiency in the eds1 and pad4 mutants increased susceptibility and elevated JA levels. In conclusion, SA enhances Arabidopsis defense against A. alternata via an EX1/2-independent 1O2 signal pathway and antagonizes JA biosynthesis.</p
Mapping knowledge domains for mine heat hazard: a bibliometric analysis of research trends and future needs
As the shallow mineral resources are nearly depleted, the mining of deep resources has become an urgent problem to be studied. The increase in mine depth can lead to the increase of mine heat hazard, which is a critical concern for mining safety/occupational health and safety. However, there are limited review articles available regarding the prevention of mine heat hazard. To fill in this gap, a bibliometric analysis and knowledge mapping of the field of mine heat hazard prevention are presented in this paper. A total of 314 papers from the Web of Science (WOS) core collection database that published between January 1998 and July 2022 were analyzed using VOSviewer and CiteSpace. China, South Africa, Poland, USA, and Australia are the top five countries in this field. The important journals are Applied Thermal Engineering, Applied Energy, Energies, and International Journal of Mining Science and Technology. In addition, the research focal points and two research fronts were identified and discussed. The knowledge base of mine heat hazard research focuses on mine cooling technology, energy efficiency optimization of cooling systems, thermodynamic theory, and occupational health. There are two research fronts. One is to use the numerical simulation method to study various problems such as simulate the performance of refrigeration systems and thermal comfort in mines. The second is to study the occupational health impact of climate change on miners. Therefore, this paper provides readers and academics with an overview of the intellectual structure and knowledge body that have been developed on the subject of mine heat hazard.Green Open Access added to TU Delft Institutional Repository ‘You share, we take care!’ – Taverne project https://www.openaccess.nl/en/you-share-we-take-care Otherwise as indicated in the copyright section: the publisher is the copyright holder of this work and the author uses the Dutch legislation to make this work public.Safety and Security Scienc
Privacy-enhancing mechanisms for securing data access and analysis
Data has been widely recognized as one of the most valuable assets that can be utilized to make dynamic decisions, improve service quality, optimize business operations and reduce costs. Most organizations are becoming more data-driven and leverage emerging technologies (e.g., the Internet of Things (IoT), cloud services, and machine learning) more frequently for collecting, storing, and analyzing data to provide better services to individuals. However, this also places new challenges on the protection of individual privacy. As with the widespread adoption of these emerging technologies, it becomes much easier to get unauthorized data access, infer and disclose sensitive personal information during the storage and analysis of data. Therefore, due to the capability to improve privacy, Privacy-enhancing Technologies (PETs) have received much attention from academic researchers, industry practitioners, and government regulators. In this thesis, we mainly focus on the mechanisms integrating PETs for securing data access and analysis.
Firstly, to protect data security and improve the access control system for cloud storage, we propose a blockchain-based approach that distributes the access control tasks for authentication, authorization, and auditing to a distributed network of nodes. In particular, the auditing records are kept in the transparent blockchain. We propose different protocols for access control generation and verification, and design the corresponding transaction structures. In addition, Shamir's secret sharing scheme is employed to manage the encryption key for cloud users.
Secondly, to prevent data leakage in federated learning for data analysis as well as enhance the quality of the Federated Learning (FL) model, we propose a privacy-enhanced FL scheme, based on cryptographic mechanisms. This scheme allows both data significance evaluation and weighted aggregation of local models in a privacy-preserving manner. Experimental results show that our scheme is practical and secure.
Considering the FL participants are inevitably resource-constrained mobile devices, they may drop out of the system due to their mobility nature. To further improve the resilience of privacy-preserving aggregation, we propose a scalable privacy-preserving aggregation scheme that can tolerate dropout by participants at any time, and is secure against both semi-honest and active malicious adversaries by setting proper system parameters. By replacing communication-intensive building blocks with a seed homomorphic pseudo-random generator, and relying on the additive homomorphic property of Shamir's secret sharing scheme, our scheme achieves a significantly smaller cost and provides stronger dropout-resilience than existing schemes. The simplicity of our scheme makes it attractive both for implementation and for further improvements.Doctor of Philosoph

A CAST-Based Analysis of the Metro Accident That Was Triggered by the Zhengzhou Heavy Rainstorm Disaster
Emergency management research is used to deal with the increasing number of extreme weather threats in urban areas. This paper uses causal analysis based on systems theory (CAST) to review the subway water ingress accident and the government's emergency management actions in Zhengzhou, Henan Province, during the heavy rainstorm disaster on 20 July 2021. The aims of this article are to establish safety control structures at both the enterprise level and the government level, and to systematically analyze the problems in emergency management in Zhengzhou City. Our analysis found that the construction of disaster prevention facilities restricted emergency management. Therefore, we suggest that enterprises and governments not only pay attention to emergency management, but also to the construction of disaster prevention facilities. This article also points out that the system of chief executive responsibility that is implemented in China is becoming a double-edged sword in emergency management. Our study makes recommendations for enhancing the capacities of emergency management, points out the shortcomings of the existing emergency management structure, and provides knowledge gained for future emergency management research.Safety and Security Scienc
