Rural Roulette: The Battle for School Vouchers and the Inequitable Effect on Rural Texas Schools

    No full text
The article examines the contentious issue of school vouchers and their disproportionate impact on rural education in Texas. The author argues that while school vouchers are designed to offer educational choice, they often exacerbate existing inequalities by diverting funding away from already under-resourced rural schools. It highlights how voucher programs can undermine the financial stability of rural districts, leading to reduced educational opportunities for students in these areas. Through case studies and data analysis, the author illustrates the broader implications for rural communities and advocates for policy reforms that better address these disparities. The article calls for a more equitable approach to education funding that ensures rural schools are not left behind in the voucher debate

    The (Lit Review) Wall

When the pandemic hit, I was struggling - as we all were - to figure out how I worked best stuck at home. The first draft of my dissertation lit review was rejected by my advisor, so I started over. To help me visualize things, I put each of my references (first author, date, keywords) on a color-coded Post-It and grouped them into categories. The categories wound in a sort of circle, ending with the “hole in the field” in the center where my own work fit in. This helped me reconceptualize the chapter - and it gave me a quick reference as I was writing: just look at The Wall! If I was writing about a specific topic and needed a reference, I simply needed to glance up at The Wall and find one. While programs such as Zotero can also help with things like this, as a visual person with ADHD, this was exactly what I needed.Made available in DSpace on 2022-06-01T16:57:46Z (GMT). Time and Intensity by Ted Bouvier The time you spend working out can be intense without taking up a lot of your time. Intensity is the amount of stress you put on your muscles in a given time frame in order for them to grow. To change your intensity and save time, here is one example. If you do one set of ten reps, rest 30 seconds and do another set of 10 reps, it will have taken you approximately 2 min to complete the 2 sets. By reducing the speed of the movement by 50%, and only do one set of 10 reps, you have reduced your total time and doubled your intensity of the muscle work in one set. Many people feel the need to over exercise. This is less beneficial than shortening your exercise time, and increasing your intensity and rest.
