    The Gregorio Cortez case

    No full text
Gregorio Cortez y Lira, better known as Gregorio Cortez, stirred Southwest Texas to unprecedented fits of passion during a ten day interval in June, 1901. Within a span of a little more than two days, Gregorio Cortez shot and killed two of Texas’ most popular law enforcement officers. A third man was also killed. The deaths of the men triggered one of the sensational manhunts in the history of Texas lasting ten days. ¹ Many stories and tales have been recounted of Cortez’s deeds and exploits. He has become a legend in Texas folklore. In the cantinas along the Rio Grande Ricer on the Texas-Mexico border, Mexican-Americans glorify his feats in a ballad El Corrido de Gregorio Cortez. Cortez has become a legendary hero in the eyes of many Mexican-Americans

The Eurasian Economic Union: Origin and Development of a new Integration Format Compared with That of the EU

The strengthening in the last years of the integration processes in the former soviet space has attracted the attention of the countries and institutions in the Euro-Atlantic region. The assessments are mostly critical since these phenomena are seen as an attempt by Russia to enlarge again its geopolitical influence in the region. Despite the slowdown of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) project, the phenomenon continues to produce an interest. The integration in the Eurasian space (which does not include only the Eurasian Economic Union) deserves a reflection from the perspective of regional and supranational aggregative dynamics. The Eurasian economic integration has been decided from the top, and carried forward with remarkable rapidity in less then four years. In fact the project promoters, especially Russia and Kazakhstan, see in the birth of the Eurasian Economic Union the culmination of a path started about 20 years ago, and characterized by a series of milestones for increasing integration. However, it is above all since the implementation of the Customs Union that a true supranational integrative path got underway. The project of the EAEU is rather pragmatic and centered on the economic aspects in which the supranational characteristics are theoretically important but in fact evolve slowly. In some points these elements are even less compared to the system of the EurAsEC. However, the Eurasian Economic Union could really have a better chance of success, being based on a specific and more perfect institutional and legal construction, in addition to relying on the obvious geographical, linguistic and historical elements. The European Union model has been an important reference point and widely used in the public discourse of the Russian leadership. Nevertheless, even if from the formal point of view there are many similarities in fact differences are abysmal

Worldwide, student retention is an important factor in generating strategies that contribute to reducing the dropout rate and guaranteeing the successful completion of the students\u27 academic processes. The research work aims to: Analyze the socioeconomic conditions and the permanence of students in the Dentistry career of the San Gregorio de Portoviejo University. The research was directed with a positivist approach and used the non-experimental correlational quantitative method, considering a sample of 292 students, to whom a virtual survey was applied using Google Forms and a questionnaire with a Likert scale. For data analysis, version 25.0 of the IBM SPSS v25 computer statistical software was used; (Statistical Package for Social Sciences/Statistical Package for Social Sciences); According to the descriptive and inferential statistical procedure, it is determined that the correlation is significant at a bilateral level of 0.01, there being a positive relationship between socioeconomic conditions and permanence.

Instantaneous Kinematics and Singularities of Two Types of Under-Actuated Parallel Wrists

S-(nS)PU-SPU and S-(nS)PU-2SPU are two out of three types of under-actuated wrists that are generated from the “ordinary” wrists of type S-3SPU (fully-parallel wrists), by replacing a spherical pair (S) with a nonholonomic spherical pair (nS) according to the rules stated in [1]. Position analysis, controllability, and path planning of these two wrist types have been addressed and solved in two previous papers [2, 3] of this author. Their kinetostatics and singularity analysis have not been addressed, yet; and they are studied in this paper. Institutional communication plays a fundamental role in the digital transformation process of academic institutions. The objective of this work is to determine the role of institutional communication in the digital transformation process of the Universidad San Gregorio de Portoviejo (USGP), Ecuador. A descriptive study was carried out with a quantitative approach, supported by the bibliographic review, the application of two questionnaires and the evaluation of the digital maturity of the institution using two reference matrices. It is determined that, although the majority of teachers and students demonstrate high skill in the management of educational platforms and digital tools, the data also indicate that there is a group within the academic community that still does not feel comfortable with the process of digitization. It is necessary to make improvements in the institutional communication of the USGP to facilitate the digital transformation process in the institution.
