Grady calls attention to concern from Representative Silvio Conte, who argues that the biomedical and life sciences fields are underrepresented in the federal science policymaking system. Conte suggests that a new position of Advisor for Life Sciences be made, which Grady amends to a recommendation for the appointing of an Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) Associate Director engaged in the same fields. Grady forwards a letter by Representive Conte for President Bush which details his argument. The memorandum has attached to it a note from Chase Untermeyer to Jan Naylor

She tells of how she joined the program, gives her impressions of the AUC campus and student body, and describes her work on university publications as an intern with the Development Office. She speaks of her fellow interns (coming from American Ivy League universities), and about taking courses and experiencing a variety of places and recreational activities in Egypt. Grady also outlines her subsequent career in development work in the Middle East and beyond

The letter includes a note from Sullivan to give them to Long in the event of Sullivan's death. Gliedman explains his hesitancy to mail them because of the Censorship Regulations but states he will send them to Long upon his return to Atlanta, Georgia. Glideman remebers Sullian as a "a dear friend" and states, "I miss him very much. His ready wit and everpresent smile made the burden lighter." Gliedman encloses as copy of a 1941 September 22 letter from Sullivan to Grady in which Sullivan explains that he is bequething the diaries to Grady in order to spare his mother the knowledge of the hardships of war
