High temperature reduction kinetics of ilmenite by hydrogen
No full textThe kinetics of H redn. of Norwegian ilmenite ore powder was investigated at 927-1280 K. The activation energy of a surface chem. reaction was 69.6 kJ/mol as calcd. from wt. loss-time measurements according to the shrinking-unreacted core model. Optical microscopy of synthetically prepd. FeTiO3 pellets at redn. degrees of 25 and 35% showed the interface between the reacted and unreacted zones. An electron probe qual. anal. of the reduced specimens indicated a segregated Fe phase present as spheroidal nodules and TiO2 phase present in vein-like arrangements

No full textFor over one hundred years the Stefano manuscript was a private document in the possession of the Baccich family and descendants. It told a story of the 1875 Stefano shipwreck as narrated by the shipwreck survivor and the founding family patriarch Miho Baccich. In these circumstances the question of authorship of the manuscript was immaterial and did not arise as an issue. However, with the publication of the manuscript the author‟s name, or names, need to be formally attributed to it. It turns out that this is not such a clear-cut matter.
As we shall see, all informed sources attributed the authorship, and the ownership, of the manuscript to Miho Baccich. But the manuscript itself was written by Canon Stjepan Skurla – a priest from Miho‟s hometown of Dubrovnik. The question then arises: should Skurla also be considered as an author of the manuscript, or, even as the sole author (as some would have it)

No full textAnaphylaxis is defined by the World Allergy Association as “a serious, life-threatening generalized or systemic
hypersensitivity reaction” and “a serious allergic reaction that is rapid in onset and might cause death”.
There are not many clinical studies about the diagnosis and the management of anaphylaxis. This is a study made
in the Emergency Department of Nuovo Ospedale Civile S. Agostino Estense of Modena lasted 1 year. Patients
discharged or hospitalized with the diagnosis of allergic reaction, anaphylaxis, urticaria, and angioedema have
been considered.
45 patients were included in the study. Cutaneous symptoms were the most frequent (93,3%), followed by respiratory
symptoms (73,3%), cardiovascular symptoms (44,4%) and gastroenteric symptoms (13,3%). The management
of anaphylaxis was not good because epinephrine was administred only in 24,4% of patients. At the discharge,
counselling was made in 70,6% of patients.
As the international medical literature underlines, it is necessary to improve the management of anaphylaxis above
all the treatment (epinephrine must be the first drug to administer in the ED) and the counselling
