Oral History Interview with Terri Wright, Retired Station Manager WFIT

    No full text
This interview with Terri Wright, the retired Station Director of WFIT, provides a detailed look into her 30-year career and the history of the radio station. Wright, who came to Melbourne in 1991, started as a volunteer with a jazz show before being hired as a membership person and eventually becoming the general manager in 1998. The transcript highlights WFIT\u27s unique identity as a volunteer-driven organization with deep community ties. She discusses key figures like Sonny Marble, Jack Simpson, Blair Clark, and Fred Migliore, who were instrumental in shaping the station\u27s sound. Wright also recounts the station\u27s challenging move from its original subterranean location in Roberts Hall—including a major sewage flood—to its current state-of-the-art building, made possible by a $1.5 million state grant. She emphasizes the station\u27s role in connecting the community and promoting local nonprofit organizations. While acknowledging the challenges of declining student involvement and the aging listener base in the digital age, Wright expresses hope for the future of terrestrial radio. The interview concludes with an anecdote from Gordon Patterson about the infamous sewage flood and a final thank you to Wright for her time

The photographic image is of the Dayton-Wright RB-1 in an open field at the Dayton-Wright Airplane Company, circa 1920. The Dayton-Wright RB-1 was also known as the Dayton-Wright Racer. The aircraft was designed to race in the 1920 Gordon Bennet Aviation Cup Race. The RB-1 had the first successful retractable landing gear and had solid wings. The aircraft had limited forward vision but very good side and downward vision because of the windows on the side. The RB-1 did compete in the race but could not finish due to mechanical problems with the camber change gear.https://corescholar.libraries.wright.edu/special_ms152_photographs/1206/thumbnail.jp
