Resection of suprarenal inferior vena cava and dacron graft replacement without right nephrectomy for echinococcal cyst. Case report and review of the literature.
A case of a hepatic echinococcal cyst of the right lobe (diam. 16 cm.) involving the anterior wall of the retrohepatic inferior vena cava is reported. During surgery, the vein was occasionally damaged and suture of the lesion was not possible. Therefore resection of the retrohepatic vena cava was performed and the segmental continuity was replaced with a dacron graft (1,6 X 5 cm.). The patient had an uneventful recovery. The controls at 6, 12 and 24 months showed excellent permeability of the prosthesis. This report represents the second long-term survival case of the literature. The indications for graft replacement of the inferior vena cava, are discussed

Gonzalez-Rodriguez, "Von Mises-Fisher models in the total variability subspace for language recognition", IEEE Signal Processing Letters, vol. 18, no. 12, pp. 705-708, October 2011This letter proposes a new modeling approach for the Total Variability subspace within a Language Recognition task. Motivated by previous works in directional statistics, von Mises-Fisher distributions are used for assigning language-conditioned probabilities to language data, assumed to be spherically distributed in this subspace. The two proposed methods use Kernel Density Functions or Finite Mixture Models of such distributions. Experiments conducted on NIST LRE 2009 show that the proposed techniques significantly outperform the baseline cosine distance approach in most of the considered experimental conditions, including different speech conditions, durations and the presence of unseen languages.This work was supported by the Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación under FPI Grant TEC2009-14719-C02-01 and cátedra UAM-Telefónic
Microwave Spectroscopy Of Monoterpenes Of Atmospheric Interest: Α-pinene, Β-pinene, And Nopinone
Several monoterpenes and terpenoids are biogenic volatile organic compounds which are emitted in the atmosphere, and react with \chem{OH}, \chem{O_3}, \chem{NO_x}, etc. to give rise to several oxydation and degradation products. Spectroscopic information on these atmospheric species are still very scarse. Meanwhile we have demonstrated that combining quantum calculations to microwave spectroscopy led to the unambiguous characterization of the most stable conformers for perillaldehyde, \footnote{J.-R. Aviles Moreno, F. Partal Urena, J.-J. Lopez Gonzalez and T. R. Huet, {\em Chem.\ Phys.\ Lett.}~{\bf 473} (2009) 17} limonene and carvone.
\footnote{J.-R. Aviles Moreno, T. R. Huet, F. Partal Urena, J.-J. Lopez Gonzalez, {\em Struct.\ Chem.}~{\bf 24} (2013) 1163} This information can be used to subsequently model accurately the vibrational signature for atmospheric purposes. \footnote{T. R. Huet, J.-R. Aviles Moreno, O. Pirali, M. Tudorie, F. Partal Urena, J.-J. Lopez Gonzalez, {\em JQSRT.}~{\bf 113} (2012) 1261}
We have recorded the pure rotational spectra of -pinene and -pinene (\chem{C_{10}H_{16}}), and of nopinone (\chem{C_{9}H_{14}O}), using the MB-FTMW spectrometer of Lille, in the 2-20 GHz range at temperatures varying between 340 and 380 K. For these three bicyclic molecules only one conformer can be observed, and the rotational structure was observed up to J, K = 8, 3 ; 8, 4 ; 8, 5, respectively. All the spectra were modeled with a semi-rigid rotor Hamiltonian and fitted to obtain a rms value better than 5 kHz using a-, b- and c- type transitions.
All the experimental results were supported by several quantum calculations performed at different levels of theory (DFT and ab initio). In particular no experimental evidence of internal rotation motion was found (methyl groups), in good agreement with the calculated barriers.

[Interleukins and pregnancy: a disputed reality]
We are reviewing information concerning to the role of interleukins (ILs) in labor and pregnancy; these substances produce the ignition of the arachidonic acid/prostaglandins cascade to induce labor, this process could be also activated by bacterial lipopolysaccharides in this case we could have preterm labor. The activity and production of IL-2 normally is inhibited, if it does not happen an abortion could result. IL-3 and stimulatory growth factors (SGFs) are implicated in the growth and development of the pregnancy, the alteration in the production of this IL could produce intrauterine growth retardation, both of this ILs are acting in the maternal fetal interface. We consider very important that the gynecologists and obstetricians should have more information about ILs related to normal and complicated pregnancy. [References: 38

S-Wave Velocities of the Lithosphere–Asthenosphere System in the Caribbean Region
An overview of the S-wave velocity (Vs) structural model of the Caribbean with a resolution of 2° 9 2° is presented. New tomographic maps of Rayleigh wave group velocity disper- sion at periods ranging from 10 to 40 s were obtained as a result of the frequency time analysis of seismic signals of more than 400 ray-paths in the region. For each cell of 2° 9 2°, group velocity dispersion curves were determined and extended to 150 s by adding data from a larger scale tomographic study (VDOVIN et al., Geo- phys. J. Int 136:324–340, 1999). Using, as independent a priori information, the available geological and geophysical data of the region, each dispersion curve has been inverted by the ‘‘hedgehog’’ non-linear procedure (VALYUS, Determining seismic profiles from a set of observations (in Russian), Vychislitielnaya Seismologiya 4, 3–14. English translation: Computational Seismology (V.I. Keylis- Borok, ed.) 4:114–118, 1968), in order to compute a set of Vs versus depth models up to 300 km of depth. Because of the non- uniqueness of the solutions for each cell, a local smoothness optimization has been applied to the whole region in order to choose a three-dimensional model of Vs, satisfying this way the Occam’s razor concept. Several known and some new main fea- tures of the Caribbean lithosphere and asthenosphere are shown on these models such as: the west directed subduction zone of the eastern Caribbean region with a clear mantle wedge between the Caribbean lithosphere and the subducted slab; the complex and asymmetric behavior of the crustal and lithospheric thickness in the Cayman ridge; the predominant oceanic crust in the region; the presence of continental type crust in Central America, and the South and North America plates; as well as the fact that the bottom of the upper asthenosphere gets shallower going from west to east

Fil: Moreno, Carlos S.. Universidad Tecnológica Nacional.
