    Relationships among Visual Advertising Value, Brand Attitude and Customer Behaviors in Chinese Alcoholic Beverages Industry

    The purpose of this study is to measure the relationships among visual advertising value, brand attitude and customer behaviors based on Value–Attitude–Behavior Model in the Chinese alcoholic beverages industry. PLS-SEM is adopted to analyze data by using SmartPLS 4. Findings demonstrate that informational value and credibility value positively influence brand attitude, which later significantly affects repeat purchases and willingness to recommend. This study makes a theoretical contribution to relationships among advertising, brand attitude and customer behaviors

    Spatio-temporal modeling and prediction on travel behaviour analysis

    Travel behaviour analysis has been an essential topic since 1970s. Research shows that there is a strong relationship between citizens’ daily movements with activities and travel demand, so analysing human behaviours in different time and locations is quite significant to understand travel demand, and improve the transportation design. Primarily, traditional data collection methods are questionnaires and interviews. However, previous research have clear gaps: first, trip patterns extracted from the small set of data are limited and not convincing enough. This makes traditional human behaviour models inaccurate; second, the travel patterns and activity patterns discovered from previous research are limited. Moreover, previous research often ignored the impact from human activity patterns on their travel behaviours. Nowadays, it becomes feasible to obtain large trajectory data with development in sensing technologies, such as GPS trajectory data. How to use large trajectory data to extract trip patterns, forecast travel behaviours in different dimensions (spatially and temporally), and estimate dynamic travel demands using citizens’ travel behaviours have become urgent research questions to be answered. Focusing on the research questions, my PhD project analyses people’s travel behaviours from three aspects: (1) discovers spatial-temporal patterns of common movements; (2) estimate activity patterns that are not explained in trip records; (3) predict travel demand and city movement status during different periods and locations. In order to carry out the experiments, I have collected a large amount of relevant data, which are taxi trajectory data, trip diaries, house price data, bike sharing data, employment data etc. Three types of methods are employed to conduct my experiments: (i) geography and data analysis methods (Huff model, Geographical Temporal Weighted Regression, Bayesian probabilities, Distance decay function, Monte Carlo simulation, ARIMA etc.); (ii) machine learning methods (K-means Clustering, ANN, SVR, etc.); and (iii) Simulation method (Agent-based modeling and simulation). After a mass of experiments and explorations, my PhD project hastravel behaviours. The main conclusions of my PhD studies are as follows: (1) passengers have very different travel behaviours in different time and locations, which are largely related to the amount of their spare time and their income; (2) passengers’ activity can be highly inferred from their trip information (travel time, drop-off time, and drop-off location); (3) whether a trip has return trip is closely related to passengers’ travel time; (4) citizens’ daily routine, activity schedule, and trip numbers have strong regularities. In addition to the academic contributions, my research results have potential managerial contributions. For example, the model from Chapter 4 could be used to determine the locations of new infrastructure within specified conditions. The model from Chapter 5 could be used for targeted advertising. The forecasting model from Chapter 6 can be used to forecast travel demands, and then assist the department of municipal transport administration plan the scale of road construction, and the number of traffic lights

    The Motivation of Seniors: Why They Participate in the Senior Games

    This project mainly talks about the reasons of senior athletes why they participate in the Senior Games. It was well known that physical exercise can promote healthy lifestyles and physical condition of human beings, and large numbers of research had been done to investigate the motives and benefits of youth and adults to do exercise. However, few researchers spent their time studying the motivational orientations of elderly adults to participate in activities, exercise or sports. Hence, the first purpose of this study is to reveal the reasons of seniors why they participate in sports, and the Senior Games is a typical senior sport event for researchers to study. Another purpose of this study is to analyze the benefits senior athletes actually can receive from sports. Based on the purposes of this study, the author designed three research questions: (1) what are the motives of seniors engaging in the Senior Games? (2) what are the changes seniors made from being a senior athlete? (3) what is the different motivation between male and female athletes to participate in the Senior Games? In order to answer these questions, the author reviewed the conceptual theories about participation motivation, competence motivation theory, and self-determination theory; the purpose of the Senior Games; the aging situation in America; and Title IX. In addition, based on previous study, the researcher also summarized previous findings. From the standpoint of research design, this project utilized qualitative research method to investigate research questions. In addition to supporting previous research, this study also found some new reasons for seniors to participate in sports.     Qing dai Jiaqing, Daoguang shi qi (1796-1850) jin wen shu fa yan jiu =: Bronze-script calligraphy in the Jiaqing-Daoguang period (1796-1850) of the Qing dynasty

    Ph.D.Bronze script is commonly referred to a variety of Chinese scripts engraved on Chinese ritual bronzes from the Shang dynasty to the Zhou dynasty and even later. As one of the earliest scripts in the Chinese family of scripts, the bronze script actually seldom gains its importance for traditional practice of Chinese calligraphy. However, during the Jiaqing-Daoguang period (1796-1850) of the Qing dynasty , it revives with a group of calligraphers boost their interest in and enthusiasm for the calligraphic art of bronze inscriptions. This study therefore aims to examine the emergence and development of bronze script’s revival during this period through a dialogic relationship with social and historical changes in the context of China’s last dynasty of Qing as well as to contribute to the research in the history of Chinese calligraphy in bronze script.I first provide a historical overview of the development of the calligraphic art of bronze script from the Song dynasty to the Jiaqing-Daoguang period in Chapter one. I believe that such a “looking-back” definitely will lay a foundation for our appreciation and understanding of the great achievement of bronze script in the Jiaqing-Daoguang period. I then proceed to identify and analyze the factors that contribute to the revival of bronze script in the Jiaqing-Daoguang period against the backdrop of the changing Chinese social, historical, and cultural values. The three perspectives that I mainly focus on are that period’s academic atmosphere and scholarly tradition, appreciation and appraisal of antiques and ancient vessels, and design fashion of Chinese seal carving and Calligraphy. I, at the same time, dedicate a particular study to Ruan Yuan ( 1764-1849), a prominent scholar at that time who collated lost antiquarian texts, compiled several new studies on bronze inscriptions, and casted new bronze vessels. I assert that Ruan Yuan plays a significant role for the bronze script’s revival in the Jiaqing-Daoguang period.In my last two chapters, I develop my analysis of the calligraphic art of bronze script in the Jiaqing-Daoguang period from the two dimensions of writing content and writing style to display itsspecific cultural and aesthetic achievements and values. With a close study of the Chinese characters written in the calligraphic works related in that historical period, I argue that rubbings of Shang and Zhou bronze inscriptions, Xue Shanggong's (》) Lidai zhongding yiqi kuanzhi fatie (), Wang Qiu’s () Xiaotang jigulu (但) , and Ruan Yuan’s Jiguzhai zhongding yiqi kuanzhihiare obviously the sources for the calligraphers at that period to practice bronze inscriptions. While, there is indeed few calligraphers’ works patterned after some works of their contemporaries. As for the writing style, I try to exemplify its variety with a specific analysis on the calligraphy works’ aesthetic expressions of the brush, calligraphic structure and layout, and the width of calligraphy scrolls. Indeed, with the in-depth study of the theory, history, and connoisseurship of calligraphy, Qing’s calligraphers in the Jiaqing-Daoguang period gain their inspiration in the archaic forms of bronze script and seal script and bring the art of Chinese calligraphy to new height.金文,這種鑄亥1於商周青銅掃上的款識銘文, 歷經商間, 逐漸退出歷史舞臺。失去實用價值的金文,在之後的書法領域亦未曾受到重視,直至j古代的嘉慶、道光時期(1 796-1850 )才逐漸中興,當日寄出現了較多書寫商周金文的書家。這種書壇新象在清代書法史,甚至是中國書法史中的意義重大。然而學界對其卻鮮有專門且深入的研究,閃此本文以嘉道時期的金文書法為研究對象,以期能補充這段時期金文書法史的研究空白。本文分四章進行討論:首先為了能更好地理解嘉道時期金文書法的藝術特色與成就, 第一章先梳理出宋代主rJ清代嘉道之前,金文書法的發展概貌。第二章從嘉這時期的時代背景入手, 分別從當時的學術風氣、古掃鑒藏、書印風尚三方面進行論述,指出這些綜合的閃京促進了金文書法在當時的興起,尤其是書壇中寬泛的取法觀念,更是起到了決定作用; 線而探討阮元組織刊刻吉金書籍、鑄造青銅掃兩方面的貢獻, 揭示其宜接或間接地推動了金文書法的興起。第三章探尋嘉道時期金文書法的取法淵源, 臼收集到的嘉道時期金文書法作品出發, 理清這些作品中具體的書寫內容,然後以這些作品內容為源頭,並藉助題款與作品中特殊的文字寫法,分析出商周青銅禱拓片和|薛尚功《歷代鐘鼎疊擇款識法帖〉、-幹-侏〈嘯主集古錄〉及阮元《積古齋鐘鼎葬掃款識〉三本吉金亥j書都是當時金文書法取法的荒要淵源。同時,也分析出當時的金文書家也偶有師法時人的現象。第四章討論嘉道時期的金文書風,論述中予以風格分類與時間分期的方式展開,而是通過對書法本體的內京一一用筆、結體與章法幅式的分析,以期更具體、更客觀地反映當時金文書法的多樣風貌。陶淑慧.Parallel title from added title page.Thesis Ph.D. Chinese University of Hong Kong 2017.Includes bibliographical references (leaves 203-221).Abstracts in English and Chinese.Title from PDF title page (viewed on February 14, 2020)Tao Shuhui
