    Il saggio intende approfondire il ruolo di Kurt Goldstein, neurologo tedesco vicino alla Gestaltpsychologie, attivo già con i feriti della I guerra mondiale, nel dibattito sul concetto di organismo e nell'affermazione della psicoterapia umanistica negli Stati Uniti del secondo dopoguerra. In particolare, si approfondisce il rapporto del lavoro dell’autore sulle afasie con la Filosofia delle forme simboliche del cugino E. Cassirer e con il contributo della scuola sovietica. Si cerca di mostrare inoltre che la concezione olistica di Goldstein lo porta a formulare un concetto di malattia come esperienza catastrofica e di guarigione come accettazione dei limiti che viene ripreso dalla fenomenologia francese negli anni cinquanta del novecento ed è apprezzabile ancora oggi in chiave di psicologia della salute

    Correlation of structural and Johari-Goldstein relaxations in systems vitrifying along isobaric and isothermal paths

    The effect of isobaric cooling ( over the range 190 - 350 K) and isothermal compression (up to 700 MPa) on structural alpha- and secondary beta-relaxations has been studied for low molecular weight glass-forming systems. The shape of the a- loss peak was found to change with temperature T and pressure P but to be constant for a combination of T and P giving the same tau(alpha)(T, P). The invariance of shape at constant tau(alpha)(T, P) involved also the excess wing, i.e. the process showing up at the high-frequency tail of the alpha-loss peak in systems with no well-resolved beta-process. Likewise, systems where the excess wing evolved to a well-resolved beta-peak showed that the timescale of the beta-process was strongly related to that of the alpha-peak. Also in this case, once a given value tau(alpha)(T, P) was fixed, a corresponding value tau beta(T, P) was found for different T and P. Same results were found also for a binary mixture of a polar rigid molecule dissolved in an apolar solvent, i.e. a model system for Johari-Goldstein intermolecular relaxation. These evidences imply that a strong correlation exists between structural alpha- and Johari-Goldstein relaxation over a wide interval of temperature and density

    Knowing color terms enhances recognition: Further evidence from English and Himba

    Two experiments attempted to reconcile discrepant recent findings relating to children’s color naming and categorization. In a replication of Franklin and colleagues (Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 90 (2005) 114–141), Experiment 1 tested English toddlers’ naming and memory for blue–green and blue–purple colors. It also found advantages for between-category presentations that could be interpreted as support for universal color categories. However, a different definition of knowing color terms led to quite different conclusions in line with the Whorfian view of Roberson and colleagues (Journal of Experimental Psychology: General, 133 (2004) 554–571). Categorical perception in recognition memory was now found only for children with a fuller understanding of the relevant terms. It was concluded that color naming can both underestimate and overestimate toddlers’ knowledge of color terms. Experiment 2 replicated the between-category recognition superiority found in Himba children by Franklin and colleagues for the blue–purple range. But Himba children, whose language does not have separate terms for green and blue, did not show a cross-category advantage for that set; rather, they behaved like English children who did not know their color terms
