The mission is designed to search for global atmospheric biosignatures on dozens of temperate terrestrial exoplanets and it will naturally investigate the diversity of other worlds. Here, we review the status of the mission concept, discuss the key mission parameters, and outline the trade-offs related to the mission's architecture. In preparation for an upcoming concept study, we define a mission baseline based on a free-formation flying constellation of a double Bracewell nulling interferometer that consists of 4 collectors and a central beam-combiner spacecraft. The interferometric baselines are between 10-600m, and the estimated diameters of the collectors are at least 2m (but will depend on the total achievable instrument throughput). The spectral required wavelength range is 6-16μm (with a goal of 4-18.5μm), hence cryogenic temperatures are needed both for the collectors and the beam combiners. One of the key challenges is the required deep, stable, and broad-band nulling performance while maintaining a high system throughput for the planet signal. Six months later, in the wake of new strains in the repo market, the Fed expanded the facility by broadening the types of collateral accepted for loans. Michael Janský Supervisor: Jiří Novák, M.Sc., Ph.D. Academic Year: 2014/2015 Abstrakt česky Tato diplomová práce se zabývá odměňováním a vzorci migrace mezi pracovními pozicemi manažerů firem, jež vyrábí zboží a služby vytvářející závislost (tabákové výrobky, alkohol a hazardní hry). Předchozí výzkum odhalil náklady spojené s výrobou škodlivého zboží, jež jsou specifické pro tyto průmysly. Konzistentně s tímto proudem výzkumu nacházím zvýšené odměny manažerů v tabákových, alkoholových a hazardních firmách. Tento výsledek se zdá míti původ v charakteristice průmyslu, spíše než ve vlastnostech manažerů či v "tradičních" determinantách odměňování manažerů. Vzorce migrace manažerů mezi pracovními místy a vliv změny zaměstnání na odměny naznačují, že vyšší odměny nejsou způsobeny zvláštními vlastnostmi manažerů, jež by specificky tyto firmy potřebovaly, a stejně tak nejsou způsobeny příspěvkem manažerů k vytváření přidané hodnoty nebo jinými vlastnostmi specifickými pro manažery. Between two flags: cultural nationalism and racial formation in Puerto Rican Chicago, 1946-1994
Get PDF"This dissertation traces the history of Chicago's Puerto Rican community between 1946 and 1994, a period of sustained growth and repeated transformations. Throughout this period, cultural nationalism proved itself a valuable tool to mobilize support for multiple and competing political projects, including both those that supported and those that rejected independence for the island of Puerto Rico. As such, I argue, cultural nationalism played a key role in shaping the racial formation of the local community and, eventually, the emergence of ""Latina/o"" as a novel racial category on a broader scale. Drawing on a wide range of archival sources, including newspapers, government documents, ethnographic field notes, and polemical writings produced within social movements, Between Two Flags sheds new light on the history of attempts by forces within Chicago's Puerto Rican community to define its identity in the face of external pressures. The first two chapters investigate three early efforts to deploy cultural nationalism on a local scale, all of which promoted (in different ways) the eventual assimilation of Puerto Ricans into whiteness. Chapters three and four examine the collapse of these early models, first by excavating in detail the pivotal three-day Division Street Riots of 1966, and then by looking at the gendered experience of poverty in the community. Chapters five and six track the emergence and eventual institutionalization of a militant anti-colonial cultural nationalism, focusing on the influence of black nationalism as well as the growing alliances connecting Puerto Rican and Chicana/o activists, who collectively influenced the emergence of latinidad.
