Definition and measurement of a new electrical power quality index for power system management purposes

    No full text
This work deals with the purpose of a new measurement methodology and a new qualità index to evaluate quality of the signal, particularly of electrical ones, valid also when these signal are non-stationary. A new quality index, named Wavelet Harmonic Distortion (WHD), is here suggested, taking origin from the theory of the Wavelet Transform, very useful to on-line evaluate the well-known Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of the voltage and current signals relevant to power systems

Closed-form equations to design single sampling plans for isolated lots

    No full text
In this paper, the problem of designing simple sampling plans by attributes for isolated lots is considered. The customary design procedure is based on numerical tables like those reported in the ISO 2859 norm or on iterative algorithms implemented in a computer software, not suitable for inclusion in a norm. The paper proposes a procedure based on quite simple closed-form equations, yielding the required sample size and the acceptance number for any consistent set of specifications on the operating characteristic, in terms of AQL, RQL, PR CR. The equations are derived using a Gaussian approximation of the hypergeometric distribution. It is shown that the proposed design procedure, besides being very simple, is accurate (i.e. the specification are accurately met) and universal (i.e. the method is valid for a wide range of specifications

Improved sine-wave parameter estimation for A/D converter testing

    No full text
An improved sine-wave parameter estimation algorithm is described and analyzed. It allows us to perform the standard “curve fit test” on A/D converters employing sine waves with amplitude greater than the full-scale range of the device. The speed and stability performance of the algorithm, which overcomes the problems of the standard methodology assuring highly accurate and repeatable measurements of the “effective numbers of bits”, are studied and illustrated in detail. The metrological requests on the signal generator employing the new methodology are also discusse

SCADA/HMI Systems in Advanced Educational Courses

    No full text
This work gives a detailed description of some laboratory practices about SCADA/HMI systems developed for didactic purposes for various undergraduate courses at the 1st Engineering Faculty of Polytechnic of Bari, Department of Electrics and Electronics (Italy); they consider the use of National Instruments LabVIEWreg with the associated data logging and supervisory control toolset (DSCreg) to develop the SCADA/HMI portion (operator's interface and data logging) of a software simulated industrial plant consisting of a vessel with charge and discharge proportional valves, a heating/cooling element, a level sensor and two flow rate sensors. The control of this plant can be done in two different ways, according to the difficulty level of the practice: by way of a LabVIEW VI or by way of a ladder program written with RSLogix 5/500 and emulated by RSLogix Emulate 5/500 (both are Rockwell Software's products, the first being the ladder software development environment for PLC-5/SLC500 family of industrial programmable logic controllers (PLCs) from Allen Bradley and the second being the related software emulator)
