Reactor Design for Partial Upgrading of Bitumen via Aquaprocessing
Alberta oil industry is facing a major challenge because of the widening price differentials between West Texas Intermediate and Western Canadian Select. The Western Canadian Select is trading at low of US$ 16.71 /bbl. because of its high viscosity, density, total acid number, and sulfur content and lack of access to market outside North America. Under these circumstances, partial upgrading processes such as Aquaprocessing are envisioned as a potential solution. The synthetic crude oil produced from Aquaprocessing of bitumen requires 50 vol.% less diluents than the Athabasca bitumen to meet the pipeline specifications. This thesis is focused on evaluating the reactor design parameters required for scale-up of this technology. The kinetic parameters for hydrocracking reaction were calculated using first-order rate law expression for the packed bed reactor. Diffusivity of steam in bitumen, dimensionless numbers and hydrodynamic properties of the fluid inside the reactor were calculated using experimental and simulated data. The experimental results indicate that the effect of catalyst particle size depends on the catalyst preparation techniques. The steam diffusivity in bitumen was found to increase linearly with increase in reaction temperature. 0.05 psi/m pressure drop and 39 vol.% liquid holdups are predicted for the two-phase flow regime

Redressal of Consumer Grievances: A Case Study of State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Chandigarh
Our society has, essentially, been dynamic though its speed of dynamism is found to be varying between that of the bullock-carts to that of the space travel. Man, being a social and rational animal has ever tried to improve upon everything he laid hands on or anything he had invented or discovered.1 His special faculty to thoughtfulness has always been inspiring to channelize all his energies to reach a destination of perfection in life. The inherent virtues of interaction and interdependence of the human beings2 are taken to be the symbol of dynamism of a civilization. The existing commercialization of every sphere of life gives much more prominence to the most subtle and indispensable interaction between the trader and the consumer. Consumer is all of us and all of us are consumers. Guided, instinctively, by the stomach,3 we are first the consumers and later the producers. And consumers we remain forever, not merely from cradle to grave, but even beyond these two extremes of our physical existence while producers we remain for a comparatively shorter period of our full life cycle. The simplest sharing of one’s surplus produce in

exchange for the reciprocated surpluses of different commodities of use, produced by others, was the origin proper of the Barter trade which is as old the society itself.
A Brisk Estimator for the Angular Multipoles (BEAM) of the redshift space bispectrum
The anisotropy of the redshift space bispectrum depends upon the orientation
of the triangles formed by three modes with respect to the line of
sight. For a triangle of fixed size () and shape (), this
orientation dependence can be quantified in terms of angular multipoles
which contain a wealth of cosmological information. We
propose a fast and efficient FFT-based estimator that computes bispectrum
multipole moments of a 3D cosmological field for all possible and
(including ). The time required by the estimator to compute all
multipoles from a gridded data cube of volume scales as in contrast to the direct computation technique which requires
time . Here, we demonstrate the formalism and validate othe
estimator using a simulated non-Gaussian field for which the analytical
expressions for all bispectrum multipoles are known. The estimated results are
found to be in good agreement with the analytical predictions for all
non-zero multipoles (up to ). We expect the bispectrum
multipoles to significantly enhance the information available from galaxy
redshift surveys, and future redshifted 21-cm observations.Comment: Comments are welcom

Isolation of 4-aminopyridine resistant mutants affecting alkali-insoluble glucan content of cell walls in Saccharomyces cerevisiae
897-901Saccharomyces cerevisiae
cells
when grown on synthetic medium plates containing 10 mM of
4-aminopyridine (4-AP) undergo cell lysis. Using an ethylmethane sulfonate
mutagenesis (EMS) screen, 4-AP resistant
mutants (apr) were isolated which could grow on inhibitory
concentration of 4-AP. Eighty mutants were obtained that were recessive,
monogenic and
formed two complementation groups. To
identify genes, whose products might be interacting with the apr loci, extragenic
suppressors were isolated, which reverted 4-AP resistance phenotype of apr mutants.
The suppressors, when genetically characterized, were found to be recessive and
represented two loci with overlapping functions. Representative alleles from

were analyzed for cell wall composition. They were found to have a higher
amount of alkali-insoluble glucan signifying the role of alkali-insoluble glucan
in cell wall maintenance.</span
