    Darren Byler a sociocultural anthropologist and assistant professor at Simon Fraser University\u27s School for International Studies.His research examines the dispossession of stateless populations through forms of contemporary capitalism and colonialism in China, Central Asia, and Southeast Asia. He has written two books, Terror Capitalism: Uyghur Dispossession and Masculinity in a Chinese City, and In the Camps: China\u27s High-Tech Penal Colony. His research is focused on representations of queerness, gender, and the body in horror film and television. He has published numerous academic articles, contributed to book collections, and is the author of Queer Horror Film and Television (I.B. Tauris, 2016) and co-editor of New Queer Horror Film and Television (UWP, 2020) with Dr John Edgar Browning.     River ecosystem metabolism modelling outputs (Lachlan River, NSW, 2018-07-01 to 2019-06-30)

    The purpose of the modelling was to 1) build knowledge around how river flow and connectivity affect aquatic ecosystem metabolism, and 2) provide a robust case study for scaling flow-ecology responses to larger spatial scales (i.e., an entire catchment). This data collection contains the predicted rates of ecosystem metabolism (gross primary production and ecosystem respiration) at unmonitored locations on the Lachlan River, NSW, Australia.\nLineage: These data were produced using a spatio-temporal modelling framework. Rates of gross primary production (GPP) and ecosystem respiration (ER) were modelled as a function of monthly air temperature, monthly solar exposure, discharge magnitude, and discharge temporal variability. These variables, together with estimated spatial and temporal dependencies, were subsequently used to estimate GPP and ER at unmonitored locations along the Lachlan River.\n\nFull details available in Giling et al. "Plant diversity alters the representation of motifs in food webs".The data files provided contain the results used to generate the figures and statistical analysis in the paper, including the frequencies and representation (normalised z-scores) of each motif in each food web.     A prospective examination of Beck’s cognitive theory of depression in university students in mainland China

    The current multi-wave longitudinal study examined the applicability of Beck’s (1967, 1983) cognitive theory of depression to university students in mainland China. During an initial assessment, participants completed measures assessing dysfunctional attitudes and depressive/anxious symptoms. Participants subsequently completed measures assessing negative events and depressive/anxious symptoms once a month for six months. Results provided support for the applicability of Beck’s cognitive theory to university students in mainland China. More specifically, higher levels of dysfunctional attitudes were associated with greater increases in depressive symptoms following the occurrence of negative events. At the same time, contrary to findings obtained in Western samples, higher levels of dysfunctional attitudes were also associated with greater increases in anxious symptoms following the occurrence of negative events. These findings may suggest that dysfunctional attitudes exhibit non-specificity as a predictor of depressive symptoms in mainland China.M.A.Includes bibliographical referencesby Darren Stolo

    Description of code for Giling et al. "Plant diversity alters the representation of motifs in food webs".# 01_Giling_et_al_build_and_analyse_networks.RThis script first constructs the matrices of interaction probability among species (plants, consumers and static resources) that co-occurred on an experimental plot at a particular time. These networks are constructed for multiple scenarios of interaction probability by altering the parameters alpha and beta (see Methods section "Food web construction").Subsequently, the code samples these probabilities a specified number of times and calculates a selection of network properties (with the custom 'web.properties' function defined in section 2). This includes the motif_counter function of Borrelli 2015. Each network is also rewired a specified number of times with the functions 'curving' (modified from Borrelli 2015) and curve_ball (Strona et al. 2014) and z-scores are calculated. For motifs, the z-scores are normalised.There are optional lines of code that can be included to run the habitat complexity scenario (see Supplementary Note 2) or to subset the network to consumers only.The looping proceedure is implemented for running in parallel with packages foreach and doParallel.# 02_Giling_et_al_motif_analysis.RThis code uses the network properties generated by code "01_Giling_et_al_build_and_analyse_networks.R" to test the effect of plant species richness on the counts (section 3) and z-score of motifs (section 4). This is performed by the functions "plot.freq" and "plot.zscores", respectively.     Diplomsko delo obravnava film Črni labod/Black Swan. Razčlenjuje mišljenje in delovanje glavnega filmskega lika in posledično splošno razumevanje človeka samega. Skozi film Črni labod sem iskal razlage o razvoju človekove osebnosti in jih s pomočjo teorij Sigmunda Freuda in Abrahama Maslowa razčlenil v razlagah filma po sekvencah. Vpliv družbe na posameznika je pomemben motiv v filmu, ki ga v nalogi razširjam s slogovnim zgodovinskim obdobjem dadaizma in predvsem nadrealizma in z razčlenjevanjem motiva laboda v književnosti in filmu. S tem pa poskušam pojasniti polje nezavednega, ki ga še vedno označujejo za bistveni del razlage osebnosti. Človeška osebnost se oblikuje predvsem v obdobju odraščanja, zato sem se v nalogi najbolj posvetil temi razvoja iz otroka v odraslo osebo, ki jo razvija tudi režiser filma Darren Aronofsky.This thesis focusses on the film Black Swan. It deconstructs the thoughts and actions of the protagonist and through this, forms a possible understanding of the human being itself. Throughout the film the author has searched for the explanations of personal development, which he then analyses through Sigmund Freud\u27s and Abraham Maslow\u27s theories. Social influences upon an individual are an important motive in the filmin the thesis, this is examined through the lens of dadaism and surrealism and with the analysis of the swan motive in literature and in film. With this the author attempts to explain the field of subconscious, which is still perceived as a vital part of any explanation of personality. The largest part of human personality is formed in the period of puberty, which is why the author has focused most of his attention upon the motive of a child growing into an adult, which is also the theme that the director Darren Aronofsky develops
