IMPROVED METHOD FOR THE DISCRETE FAST FOURIER-TRANSFORM

    No full text
A new algorithm is proposed here for the discrete fast Fourier transform with greatly reduced aliasing which is known to be inherent in the conventional algorithm of Cooley and Tukey, unless the function is band limited and the sampling frequency satisfies the Nyquist condition. Like the algorithm recently proposed by Schütte and extended by Mäkinen in this journal, this is also based on the polynomial expansion of the function to be transformed but more general in formulation and less restrictive than theirs. Its power is demonstrated with a few non-band-limited functions that can be exactly transformed with chosen limits as usually met in different experimental situations. In all cases tried, this yields, in general, much improved accuracy in comparison to others at little or no corresponding increase of computation time

The world of Rituparno Ghosh: texts, contexts and transgressions

    No full text
In this article we introduce the queer Bengali auteur Rituparno Ghosh (1961–2013), who had a significant role in reviving the Bengali film industry that was going through a dark phase for a little more than a decade. As an iconic feminist film-maker and queer cultural figure, Ghosh has been an influential icon within Bengal and more widely in India and the diasporas. In seeking to examine his vast oeuvre of work we focus on its various elements. First, we examine Ghosh’s feminist position, and how he shocked his middle-class audience through his transgressive discourses. Second, we investigate the influence and inspiration he received from figures such as Satyajit Ray and Rabindranath Tagore. We argue that Tagore’s sensibility and philosophy imbued all his films. In doing this he was also uncritically referencing the other great Bengali film-maker Satyajit Ray. Third, an examination of Ghosh is incomplete without referencing his uninhibited performance of queerness both in his films and in the public domain. Over here we look at his final queer film trilogy but also the impact he left on Calcutta’s LGBT community. Finally, this article ends by focusing on Ghosh’s legacy on other Bengali film-maker

Controller and observer design using vector framework with simplified contraction analysis

    No full text
This technical note presents the application of simplified contraction analysis using vector framework. In general, conventional approach leads to guaranteeing negative definiteness of the associated Jacobian for ensuring convergence of any pair of trajectories. A vector valued norm is used for simplification of the problem to ensure contraction through the comparison systems. In fact, comparison systems are used for ensuring convergence of the squared distances between any pair of trajectories in a simplified way. We show that by employing this simplified contraction analysis, it is possible to design controller and observer. The methodology is illustrated via a set of representative examples
