Evidence-based practice.
The sixth edition of this book reflects significant developments in nursing research in recent years, ensuring the reader is provided with the very latest information on research processes and methods. It continues to explore how to undertake research as well as evaluating and using research findings in clinical practice, in a way that is suitable for both novice researchers and those with more experience.
Divided into six sections, the chapters are ordered in a logical fashion that also allows the reader to dip in and out. The first two sections of the book provide a comprehensive background to research in nursing. The third section presents a variety of qualitative and quantitative approaches, both new and well–established. The final three sections then look at collecting and making sense of the resulting data and putting the research findings into clinical practice.
Summarises key points at the start of each chapter to guide you through.
Includes contributions from a wide range of experts in the field.
Accessible but doesn’t shrink away from complex debates and technical issues.

Gerrish Grove (c. 1900)
This lantern slide shows Jack Eastland Sullivan (right) and an unidentified student, both of whom attended the International YMCA Training School, now Springfield College, sitting under a tree in what is believed to be Gerrish Grove.Sullivan (class of 1902) was from Fitchburg, Massachusetts, and played on the school’s lawn hockey team. His senior thesis was titled, “Physical Exercise for Boys.” This image is believed to have been taken at Gerrish Grove, a tract of land along the shore of Massasoit Lake. In 1906, Mr. Gerrish of Springfield donated twenty acres to Springfield College. This gift, known as Gerrish Grove, was covered with white pines and deciduous trees, easy to reach by boat, and was once used for camping and athletic purposes. Springfield College held the freshmen camp here until a fire in 1930. After this event, the school built the Pueblo of the Seven Fires on what is now known as East Campus.A facsimile of this image was found with an SC number (SC18896) and a note saying that it was scanned from a glass negative. However, no glass negative can be found and the facsimile is identical to the lantern slide. We do not know whether the facsimile was made from the lantern slide or from a glass negative that is now missing. The SC file was not large enough to justify keeping and was discarded in January 2014
