Aircraft mode S transponder fingerprinting for intrusion detection

    No full text
Nowadays, aircraft safety is based on different systems and four of them share the same data-link protocol: Secondary Surveillance Radar, Automatic Dependent Surveillance System, Traffic Collision Avoidance System, and Traffic Information System use the Mode S protocol to send and receive information. This protocol does not provide any kind of authentication, making some of these applications vulnerable to cyberattacks. In this paper, an intrusion detection mechanism based on transmitter Radio Frequency (RF) fingerprinting is proposed to distinguish between legitimate messages and fake ones. The proposed transmitter signature is described and an intrusion detection algorithm is developed and evaluated in case of different intrusion configurations, also with the use of real recorded data. The results show that it is possible to detect the presence of fake messages with a high probability of detection and very low probability of false alarm

Comparison between textured SnO_2:F and Mo contacts with the p-type layer in p–i–n hydrogenate amorphous silicon solar cells by forward bias impedance analysis

    No full text
In this paper we compare the performance of the textured SnO_2:F and Mo contacts with the p-type layer in p–i–n hydrogenate amorphous silicon (a-Si:H) solar cells. We use standard current–voltage (I–V) electrical characterization methods coupled with forward bias small signal impedance analysis. We show the efficacy of this technique to determine the effective carrier lifetime in photovoltaic cells. We show that such effective lifetimes are indeed directly connected to the respective dark diode saturation currents. We also find that the effective lifetime is constant with the temperature in the 0–70 °C range and it is significantly better for the solar cell with Mo diode contact. This also explains well the higher open circuit voltage Voc found under illumination in the Mo/p–i–n cell compared to the SnO_2:F/p–i–n one

Analyzing the waiting time of academic publications: a survival model = Un modello di sopravvivenza per i tempi di accettazione delle pubblicazioni accademiche

    No full text
In this paper a survival model is used to perform an analysis of the waiting time to publication for academic articles. The model is a multilevel excess hazard model and it allows to include non-linear and non-proportional effects of the covariates. The analysis is performed by considering covariates at two levels: the first one is the article level, the second one is the journal level

Filtering equations for the conditional law of residual lifetimes from a heterogeneous population.

    No full text
We consider a probabilistic model of a heterogeneous population P subdivided into homogeneous sub-cohorts. A main assumption is that the frailties give rise to a discrete, exchangeable random vector. We put ourselves in the framework of stochastic filtering to derive the conditional distribution of residuals lifetimes of surviving individuals, given an observed history of failures and survivals. As a main feature of our approach, this study is bases on the analysis of behaviour of the vector of "occupation numbers"

Dynamic mapping of flood boundaries: current possibilities offered by earth observation system and cellular automata

    No full text
Flooding is an ongoing and complex problem in Italy. Very large floods caused inundation of the closest areas to the city centre in Rome in 1937, 1976, 1992, 2005 and most recently in 2008. Rome is located at the bottom of the Tiber River catchment, which cover an area of 16 000km2 5 . Intense precipitations struck the Tyrrhenian Sea side of the peninsula inducing a flood event on the Tiber and Aniene’s (Tiber’s tributary) basins – which captured the attention of the national and international media. Actually there is no validated model in operation for real-time flood forecasting. This research aims at comparing the Cellular Model CAESAR (Cellular Automation Evolutionary Slope And 10 River) application on a reach of the Aniene River with Earth Observation Systems. The main result expected is the prediction of future channel dynamics on short and medium time scale

Digital techniques for high-rate high-resolution radiation measurements

    No full text
Digital pulse processing (DPP) techniques are increasingly used in the development of modern spectroscopic systems. DPP systems, based on direct digitizing and processing of detector signals (preamplifier output signals), ensure higher flexibility, stability, lower dead time, higher throughput and better energy resolution than traditional pulse processing systems. In this work, we present our progress in the development of DPP systems for high-rate high-resolution radiation measurements. An innovative digital system, able to perform multi-parameter analysis (input counting rate, pulse height, pulse shape, event arrival time, etc.) even at high photon counting rates is presented. Experimental results with CdTe detectors (planar and pixel detectors) are presented, at both low and high counting rate environments (up to 2 Mcps)

Exchangeable mixture models for lifetimes: the role of "occupation numbers''.

    No full text
We study several aspects of a special type of exchangeable distributions. These distributions arise when considering the lifetimes of the individuals in a population divided into d different subpopulations and there is a (symmetric) dependence among categories of single individuals. The role of “occupation numbers” in this context is highlighted
