West to his fellow Pioneer Club members of Newport News businessmen conained a description of Newport News, Virginia itself as well as its farms and familie prior to, during and after the U.S. Civil War 1861-1865. George's Father Parker West was the owner of Newport News Farm which was the primary location of Union Army Camp Butler and the Confederate POW camp just after the war ended.
