In a letter to Calvin I. Kephart on February 6, 1924, Hermann Gebhard confirms his Kephart family branch originated in Switzerland based on oral tradition. Mr. Gebhard explains the impossibility of connecting his family to the Gebhardt family of Schopfheim due to a fire that destroyed church records in Richen, near Eppingen. Church records in Schopfheim beginning in 1605 show Hans Gerbhart who resided in Köniz but there were several other Gerbhart families during the same time. He also mentions the different forms of the Kephart name spelled over time - Gaebhardt, Gebhart, Gebhardt, and Gebhard. Mr. Gebhard discovered this information in a pamphlet “Genealogy of the family Gebhardt originating at Schopfheim i.w.” published in 1881 by F. Theirgarten.copy HSRIUNB Gil HARE, f.rissident, the Baden %mm& Gemmi ttee ipplagen, £aa«it, (or wit agricultural body) and 6 Pebr. 1934. Deputy ia Baden Diet. M.T. C. I.
